gonna drink bacardi like it's yo birthday [nancy's 20]

Twenty. Gods, Nancy could hardly believe it. She didn't expect to still be here for this day, truth be told. She knew the sort of life she lived, and the sorts of people she associated with. But against all odds, here she was. Twenty-years-old by Fagin's count, and as wonderful as that was...

It was odd. She'd been a teenager for so long, and now she was officially a twenty-something. An adult, for real this time, not like when she'd turned eighteen.

It didn't exactly help that Charley Bates had decided it was a great idea to call her 'old'. She'd hit the back of his head for that, refusing to consider herself old. She was still so young, at least in comparison to those she spent most of her time around, people that were centuries older than her.

This, of course, caused her some angst. She hadn't particularly wanted to celebrate her birthday. It wasn't anything to be glad about. She was, as she realized, three years physically older than Cooper. And that just felt... weird. She knew, mentally, he was far older than she was. And as he always said she was stuck with him until she was old and grey, but...

Would he still love her, then, she wanted to know? How weird would it be, an haggard old woman next to this cute seventeen-year-old kid. A chill ran up her spine when she thought about it, comparing the wretch that Fagin was to her hypothetical-old-woman-self.

If she lived that long.

Still, people want to celebrate with her. Eames, wonderful Eames, had surprised her with tickets to go see a show on the West End, and taken her out to an amazing restaurant. She'd even brought cake over to the boys', knowing a few of them had saved up to get her something. Or, likely, stole it. But she didn't reach out, not really. If you were lucky enough to know it was her birthday, however, she'd happily entertain any and all plans. There was no need to be rude, after all.

Nancy laughs, but nods, and starts packing the two of them a bowl. Drugs were something she'd dabbled in, but mostly sold. A side business, compared to her real one. But she wasn't going to explain that to Caroline.

When she's done, she hands her the pipe and summons a small flame on the tip of her finger.

"You smoke it just like pot. I'll light for you."

"Okay." Caroline took the pipe and put it to her lips, breathing in. Once it was lit, her mouth and then lungs were filled with sweet smoke, enough to make her cough. "Wow, that packs a punch. Or maybe I'm just out of practice."

Nancy laughs as her friend coughs.

"nah, there's nothing wrong with coughing." Though, when she takes her hit, she manages to do it without coughing. Probably from the occasional cigarette.

"Take as much as you want, there's plenty more where that came from."

Caroline definitely notices the lack of coughing by Nancy. She'll have to try to do better, though she isn't going to worry about it too much.

"So, we need to leave the masks on for ten minutes. I have chips and popcorn, if you want a snack while we wait and watch and smoke." All these activities crammed into the same time period and she'd only been here a few minutes. Tonight was going to be epically great.

"Oh my gosh, yes, please," she said with a smile.

"And I've something for you, by the way, in the fridge." She'd managed to get her hands on a few bags of blood from some of her sources, and liked to keep it on hand for some of her clients. Or when the fresh stuff simply was not on the menu.

"It's not mine."

Blood bags were one of the few things Caroline hadn't brought, so she's quite pleased to see some. And touched that Nancy would actually have some to offer her. "Perfect. A+ goes surprisingly well with salty food." Hopefully Nancy's been around enough vampires not to be completely grossed out by that statement.

Nancy is indeed, not grossed out when it comes to the information.

"I'll keep that in mind," she grins.

"I try to keep some on hand, figured, if you're doing all this for me, this is the least I can do for you."

"I imagine it could be a useful thing for you to know. And thank you. I've been running around so much I didn't have time to drink up before I came over." Between the booze and other food, Caroline hadn't figured she'd be too hungry for blood. But it's still very satisfying to drink up.

"I'll keep that in mind." It was the iron, she supposed. Regardless, it wasn't anything she really wanted to think about.

And this way, it kept her from being too peckish.

"Alright, take another hit and pass the bowl."

Caroline did as she was told, feeling oddly calm from the Canway and energized from the blood. She wondered if this would be considered mixing uppers and downers.

"So, what did Cooper get you?"

Probably, but Nancy never worried about such things like that.

Nancy takes the pipe, taking a long inhale before she decides to tackle Caroline's question. "I, ah, don't know," she says after a moment. "I haven't really let him do much in the way of my birthday. It seems weird." If anyone was going to understand, it should probably be Caroline.

Caroline frowned. "Why does it seem weird?" She has a feeling it might have to do with the vampire thing and the fact that Cooper is much older than he looks, though Caroline's not quite sure how old. She really should make a list of these things.

Nancy sighs, leaning back against the couch.

"I'm twenty. Physically and mentally. He's... Seventeen, physically. But he's so much older than that- and I know that. But sometimes it's easy to forget." She's ashamed of it, really. "It seems odd."

Yep, nailed it.

"Okay, yeah, I get that." Caroline thinks about it for a moment. "I've found that the best part of most vampires are the things that show that they're still human. It's those bits of humanity that keep us from, well, turning into Raymond Harris. Birthdays are a good reminder of these parts of us, at least for me."

She pauses as a memory comes to her and she tries to remember all the details. "I know I'm not very old as far as vampires go. But there is one vampire, Klaus, who told me once that he loved birthdays, and he was well over a thousand. I don't know exactly why he felt that way but I imagine it's probably the same reason I do."

Nancy had never really considered it that way. Birthdays were never something she'd enjoyed. But in all of it, she'd never considered what exactly it meant to a vampire.

"I never thought about that." She takes a drink, this time.

"But it's still- He'll always have the body of a seventeen-year-old. And I'm going to get old."

Caroline rolls her eyes but does it with a smile. "Nancy, you're twenty. You're pretty far away from being old. I don't think you should let it spoil things now."

Nancy groans at her, dropping her head back a little. "I know, but- what happens when I look old enough to be his mum? The looks I get when I'm with the younger ones of my brothers are bad enough."

"Honestly? I really don't know." Caroline shrugs helplessly. "I haven't had to deal with any of that stuff yet. But I'm sure you'll figure out something that works for the both of you and to hell with what anyone else thinks."

"I hope so." She sighs again. Truthfully, she knew her relationship with Cooper was unlikely to last. But that didn't stop her for loving him with everything she had.

"Think it's time to wash these off?" She gestures to their masks.

Caroline glances at her phone. "Yeah, looks like it. Where's the washroom?"

"Follow me." Nancy rises and leads her through a door off the living room to a bedroom. The bedroom itself is simple, though the sheets look soft and fluffy. Luxurious, even. Candles are on many surfaces, but other than the knowledge of how Nancy made her living, you could hardly tell this was where she did most of her work now.

The bathroom is nice, too. She's got a clean space, anything personal hidden away. "There's another bathroom, but this is off-limits to guests." She takes a towel off the wall and holds it out to Caroline.

This apartment really was nice. In fact, it was nice enough to take a whole lot of the shine off her own place, especially now that having her own place was less of a novelty.

"Thanks." She turns the water on, letting it warm up. "Prepare to feel all refreshed - or at least for your face to feel that way."

She knows it's nice. Nicer than anything she's had before. Sure, her place in Enfield had been amazing thanks to Lord Coward, but this place was beyond that. Eames had really done her a giant favor when gifting her with this flat. And she was prepared to pay rent on it, too, if he wanted.

"I'm so prepared." Once the water was warm, she allows Caroline to rinse her mask off first before turning to her own. And true enough- "Alright, nice and refreshed." Was it the magic weed or was her face tingling a little?

She giggles a bit at Nancy's reaction - clearly the Canway has started to have an effect. "Perfect. We're both positively glowing now!" Caroline's skin feels so nice now. For a moment, she almost doesn't want to promptly cover it all up with make-up. Luckily, that moment passes quickly.

Nancy giggles. "Makeup and more drinks?" She asks, folding up her towel.
