"All because Norrell wants to control every bit of magic in London," he says with a touch of bitterness. "He can't control the fae so he's pushing us out. He can't control Midnight so he's ending it altogether. Croydon was just the beginning of something bigger."

The fact that Nancy says she's involved with the fae piques Finnick's interest, but he decides not to pursue that for now. Plenty of people are involved with fae to varying extents, it's not always an interesting relationship.

"All the more reason he needs to be shut down," he says casually instead.

"Then you should help with Croydon," he says. "It should be Midnight's right now; there was a deal." Finnick's tone is insistent, perhaps betraying his feelings about said deal when it happened. He has no control over that now - the best he can do is try to twist things in their favour again.

"The way I see it, Daybreak wasn't trying to take it from us. They were trying to take it from you. They made the first move, don't you see?"

Finnick shrugs one shoulder and looks back at the storefront, where a 'closed' sign now hangs in the window. No doubt the owner needs at least a day to recover from whatever beating or curse was laid upon them. Or perhaps those objects were the largest source of revenue. Finnick doesn't particularly care to stay and find out.

"I have my King and Queen, you have your High Priestess or your Mother, whatever you want to call it. I don't presume to know how witches organize themselves."

"Anonymity's no use when everyone's using it anyway," Finnick says with a sigh. "Someone has to be the face of change. Norrell's the face of his. It may make him more of a target, but it makes them stronger in the end."
thelittlemerman: (neutral//nope still smarter)

"Mm," Finnick says. He waits a beat and then looks at her again with a critical, almost cruel gaze. "Hasn't made much of an impression lately, has she? Norrell is huffing and puffing his way through London and Abigail is...?"

Finnick laughs, humourless. "I know very well what Eames did," he says, "and that's not the point. The point is that Daybreak has found ways to attack without attacking. If Midnight wants to survive, you have to find a way to do the same."
thelittlemerman: (smile//you seem boring)

"Well," Finnick says with an awful smirk. "I look forward to seeing what Miss Widdowson and hers have up their sleeves."

"Enjoy," he says as he watches her go, electing to stay here for the moment. He has no idea whether the conversation has been productive or not, but he certainly found it amusing while it lasted.
