time for a check up (open post)

KNOW CLARA?

You may then know, more or less, the incident of her granddaughter getting kidnapped by the vampires. It distressed her but she's fine. Honest to goodness she's fine.

It's normal for her to worry for people she cares for. It's pretty normal for her to think of all the worst case scenarios some of them could find themselves in due to their personalities/their histories/their everything.

It's very normal for her to suddenly check on them one day out of the blue, just appearing next to them without a warning or a heads up.

"Are you okay?"

She's totally calmed down about the incident last month. Really.

DON'T KNOW CLARA?

What do you mean by that?

Now you do as she suddenly phases through the wall and looks directly at you during her search for everyone she knows.

It doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing. It doesn't matter if there are people there or you're supposed to be by yourself. Suddenly you have a woman staring at you in confusion for a second before it registers in her head that no. You're not someone she knows through passing.

"Um. Oops."

"I'm just moving my office to the Outreach area," he replies, his tone light with an attempt at a joke. He knows, though, what it is to worry and fuss over someone. Lord knows he's been there himself too many times. "Not leaving."

The world of London's supernatural was too new, too amazing to leave. Like when he'd begun working real cases with Jo, it spurred a sense in him that he hadn't, in fact, seen and done everything there was. That life did have something new to offer him.

"I won't be around the school as much, though I'll still try to keep an eye on Magra when I'm here."

"Actually--"

A ghost isn't in much danger, usually. Still, he considers ghosts to be people who need his protection. Need his help. Not people he can ask for help. Usually they've suffered enough that he doesn't want to inflict anything further. But Clara...

Clara is certainly different than most people he's met before. So, he manages a bit of a smile.

"Can I get you to deliver a message to the Barnet nest? The vampires?"

"Tell them Doctor Morgan sent you." That, at the very least, would mean they wouldn't even attempt to harm her. If they could. But he'd made good on his end of the bargain to the best of his ability, and now... "Just tell the head of the nest that I'll have a name for him by the end of the month."

Because, well... He didn't know if there was recourse among the Night Council for what that man had done. He was human. He wasn't affiliated with any faction from what Henry had been able to find. But if he happened to wander into disputed territory where several vampires were waiting for him... Well. Sometimes justice had to come through less than official channels.

"And it all starts and ends," Henry says with a smile, "with the clinic you mentioned."

And that she'd helped him check out the shipments for. At first, it hadn't seemed like anything connected. Then, though, things had begun to mix together, to be knotted up in a way that he hadn't seen since New York. And he'd loved it.

Even finding the bodies. There had been that rush.

"They're not involved. Not like that, at least." They were victims as much as the patients being fooled into thinking that the doctor's cure was natural. Removing him meant cutting off those yet to be helped, but it saved countless others. Especially since the long-term effects couldn't be determined yet. "The doctor..."

He sighed a bit, shaking his head.

"He won't be delivering his miracle cure any longer."

"And I should thank you, Missus Seville, for bringing it to my attention." He can't help but smile just a little. It's wrong to, and he knows it, but it... He felt useful again. Like he was doing what he was supposed to be doing.

"Things..." He shakes his head. It's hard to predict how things might have gone, but he knows this much. "Things would have gotten far worse if someone hadn't paid attention when you did."

"The student is fine. It was his mother who went to the clinic." As for whether or not everything's okay... That all depends on things he can't be sure of yet. How long vampire blood stays in the human system. What happens if it does work its way out. What happens if it doesn't. None of those will let a doctor even slightly worth his stuff make promises.

"Please do."

A pause. Because, ah, yes. There is something else to be said. Something he's only recently decided.

"You're also more than welcome to come to that clinic and check up on things. I won't always have hours myself, but I'd love to know it was running smoothly in my absence."

He's not smug about having everything set up to take over the practice once the good doctor is out of the way.

"Thank you. Everything should run smoothly once he's no longer in control of the clinic."

Should. But there was no promise that everything would work perfectly. Still, she wanted to help, and it might be useful to have someone checking in while he wasn't there.

It wouldn't hurt, definitely, and shouldn't interfere with anything else she was doing.

"No. I think, in general, the staff's fine. I just wouldn't mind someone keeping an eye on them for a bit when I'm not there," Henry offers with a smile. At her concern, he waves his hand dismissively.

"You're right to be careful. Things haven't been... the safest... lately. And, well. Who knows what's coming."
