CHINESE WHISPERS (CATCH-ALL PLOT)
Lillian needs to suppress a scream as she steps out of the portal and into Croydon. She snaps the portal shut behind her with more force than needed, the only thing she could do in the wake of the appointment she had with Quercus, the Oak King, and Merilineth, the Queen of the Green Wood. It was none of their concern their own subjects were being captured and enslaved? It wasn't interesting enough to intervene?
Don't they get how dangerous this is? How this could reach out beyond London if the ambitions were left unchecked? The idea of more witches being encouraged by what's happening here in London and trying to replicate it for themselves in their own lands made her stomach churn in discomfort and anger for the fae. The idea others trying to do this against their enemies in general, trying to justify this under a disguise of 'progress' and 'advancement', almost made her breathless in disgust.
For individuals who insists their goals were to keep things in balance, they-
She stays her thoughts since it wasn't right to doubt her Royals and she reminds herself that it could been much worse. They hadn't said no outright. Merely ordered her to watch over this and maybe they were right in that aspect. She couldn't sit out for too long. Not after what happened to her and the others at that centre. If she could show them London was worth looking after maybe they'll be willing to do something.
How? She isn't sure yet but she's willing to start small. Make allies, stop troubles, gather resources. There's a good place to start too-
Before Gregory left, he warned her of a string of incidents happening over at Redbridge and Waltham Forest. Some people disappearing, some people being assualted or killed in supposed muggings gone wrong. Not enough to gain attention from everyone but enough to have people whispering their concerns to their closest friends and their friends whispering it to their closest friends.
Sounds like something that could be useful. Or not. Either way she had to check it out.

7TH - 9TH OF MAY.
Most of the fae may have little love for werewolves for siding with the witches in attempt to grab their territory earlier but Lillian thinks it isn't right to let this continue on. People would get hurt, supernatural or not, and she could not turn a blind eye to that.
Especially when she begins to see a pattern with who is being targeted: East End members, supporters of them. Their deaths were gruesome from what she can gather and she's surprised and disappointed that the media isn't really paying attention to this.
She supposes it makes it easier to gather information. If no one else was willing to hear them then maybe they'll be glad to have an ear to vent and a shoulder to cry on.
During these days she can mostly be found speaking with people. Families who lost their loved ones. Friends wondering where their buddies disappeared too. She's beginning to put the pieces of the puzzles together and she doesn't like where this is heading.
no subject
"You." They're in a bar mostly frequented by werewolves. Not the sort of place he'd expect to find a Seelie, let alone one of those that escaped from the Innovation Centre. "What are you doing here?"
She probably hasn't seen him in this form, with two legs and hands and very pale skin, but it's still recognizably Mogget. And he remembers her.
no subject
One minute she has an easy smile on her face after that successful conversation and the next minute she has a look of caution on her. This maybe a new form she's never seen before but she detects his magic. She recognises Mogget from that festival months ago among… other places. This isn't a good sign in her eyes.
Subtly as she can, Lillian pulls back a notebook she had set on the bar counter and slips it into her bag. No need to have that be a topic of conversation.
"I'm here to meet someone while having a round of drinks," is all she says, choosing her words carefully to not reveal too much. One of the things she doesn't like about being a fae is how she can't tell an outright lie. "We just finished. Would you… like a drink?"
no subject
He steps back to take a seat at one of the bar stools by the counter, giving her an expectant look. If she doesn't want to run again, she might as well join him.
no subject
But... She doesn't want anyone else to find out she's here. Most especially a witch from the Daybreak faction who might report back her presence here- If he wasn't going to do the same.
Grudgingly she takes the seat next to him, the bag placed behind her to keep it out of sight.
"Wrene Hillond. They're a college student who resides at Redbridge." And a shapeshifter for one of the minor packs who fell in line with the East End faction. It took a bit of digging and bribing to find that tidbit out but hopefully he'll provide that one piece of the puzzle she thinks will confirm a theory of hers. "A friend of theirs was a victim of a fatal mugging gone wrong. Supposedly."
no subject
It's a minor news story. Nothing that would be of interest to most fae, although his kind are always an unpredictable lot. Mogget knows that this so-called fatal mugging is not an isolated incident. There have been a number of disappearances which is why he's here.
He really hopes it's not why she's here too. Talk about interfering.
no subject
Not a lie. She wants to comfort them while trying to discuss the case and get the information she needs so the dots can be connected. Not that she'll say that. A lady never easily tells her secrets after all. Besides, she already fulfilled her side of the bargain - he only asked about who she was meeting and why. It may not be in spirit but it was in word.
"Can't I show interest in others and wish to help them?" Not all fae are flighty and cruel, whimsical and arrogant.
no subject
Some of these same wolves might have helped to capture her or other fae on behalf of the witches. He can't imagine why she would offer them any support, especially without a price.
no subject
For now she files that information away and does her best to look harmless. She's the picture of innocence with her too kind smile and her cloyingly sweet voice, "I'm sure that you're doing whatever you can to aid them. I had no idea that there was a problem here at all! A 'plight' you say? That sounds quite serious."
Lillian does have her own agenda for wanting to aid the werewolves, of course, but she does want to help. It's not just werewolves who are getting hurt. Innocents, passerby at the wrong place at the wrong time. There's no way she's turning a blind eye to the many over what some have done. (And she does get something from this. She first needs to prove her worth though.)
no subject
But he will be sure to ask the werewolves what a Seelie is doing snooping around like this.
no subject
Does she push her luck, make comments? Hm- No. Lillian wasn't that foolish enough to try and anger someone whose allegiance was with Daybreak. Especially when they were stronger than her, restrained or not.
So she opts to stay her tongue and shrugs, keeping her smile on her face. "But feel free to carry on whatever you're doing. I would hate to try and dictate what one does when all they're trying to do is help."
Because that's what they're both trying to do at the end of the day, isn't it?
no subject
"Don't get in my way."
And with that he stands, turning to leave.
10TH OF MAY.
To do that then she'll need to get resources, gather allies. That'll take some time and a dash of luck to get half the things she needed for this confrontation. (Not to mention possibly a lot of bribing. She had that covered at the very least.)
She'll be seen around London a lot on this date, moving from place to place with a fellow fae or two at her send for either company or protection. (Lillian can also be found around Hackney during the day but leave it well alone when it starts to get dark. She knows what's lurking there.)
Her shop is closed if anyone tries to drop by during the day But explosions can be heard from it now and then when evening comes. What on earth is she doing there…?
11TH OF MAY.
Before the ambush, Lillian is nervous as she prepares for what's going down. This will be the first time she would have done anything like this so this needs to go right the first time. She gathers all the items, meets with the allies, and starts her precautions in case… something happened. This is when she can talk to people the most since she's discussing the plans about who will do this and what will go where…
During the ambush, Lillian's plans to separate the newly turned vampires and their leader surprisingly goes out without a hitch. Blood on the streets, some manoeuvring of the newly turned to somewhere else and then suddenly she finds herself all alone with the leader of the gang who is very, very mad with her. Thank goodness she has a shrapnel bomb ready…!
(Thankfully she comes out on top when the pin is pulled and the scuffle has died down between her and the leader. In pain and in need of aid but on top! Looks like all that vampire toxin wasn't needed after all.)
After the ambush, Lillian limps back to her shop when all has been said and done. From handing the vampire back to the Nest to ensure judgement is properly passed to speaking with some people one last time so loose ends are tired up, she's eager to go and sleep her injuries away.
But…
She doesn't know why she's doing this but she flips the sign on her shop to 'OPEN', turns on the lights, and waits at the counter. Will anyone actually come in at this hour? Who knows? This evening has been a strange one. Maybe something even stranger will happen next.
PRIVATE THREADS
Whether on purpose or not, she'll cross paths with the following individuals and, one way or another, find aid from them to advance her mission. She knows she'll find herself indebted to most of them as a result but she'll be willing to take that up if it means getting an extra hand or two with this. Plus some of these meetings are ones that must be held given some circumstances.
[ FOR GHOUL; 10TH OF MAY ]
they're getting strangely louder by the hour. as in 'someone should really call the cops about this' louder.
at some point lillian has to abandon her attempts of whatever she's doing to rush out of her shop, gasping for breath when the results of the failed experiments gets the better of her. smoke billows out from behind her as she gags and struggles for breath on the street, wondering of the hundredth time that night why she wasn't an air nymph or something like that.
only after clearing her head does she realise someone else is there with her. blinking back tears and pushing her hair away from her eyes, she looks up to see a familiar and thankfully friendly face. ]
Ghoul… Evening… [ she was going to say something else but excuse her- she's just going to hack her lungs out for a minute or two. ]
no subject
He rushes towards the sound, somehow managing to look even more startled when he realizes where the noise is coming from. He knows that shop, and he knows the fae spluttering and scrambling across the sidewalk. Hoooly shit. Ghoul reaches out to steady her, though he's unsure of where to focus his attention. On her? The smoke pouring out of her shop? The surrounding area in case there are any other surprises waiting to pop off? ) What happened? Is there a fire? ( It doesn't smell like a normal fire...
Maybe it's an attack. It's an attack, isn't it? ) Aw, fuck no- ( He is not about that. He's downright furious, actually. Without a second thought, he storms past her and inside her shop, waving the smoke away and looking for the threat. Whoever it is, they're about to get eaten alive. )
no subject
she ends up following him back in after she's done with her coughing fit, pulling a cloth over her mouth just so she can still breath while she heads back into her poor store. in the back of her head she's already cataloguing how much expenses she lost form this foolish endeavour of hers. maybe she should have someone's help in making the stupid-
the train of though is cut off with how much she begins to cough again, the smell from the shop nauseating. coming from the back where lillian usually resides, the stench of chemicals and gunpowder(??) is strangely strong. ] Don't do anything, please. It's a chemical fire.
no subject
Ghoul slooowly turns around to face her. His shirt is pulled up over his nose and mouth, hiding the grave look on his face, but he is still squinting at her a bit. Maybe it's just the smoke in his eyes...
Just kidding, it's not smoke. That's totally him wondering what she is doing with her life. ) Why is there a chemical fire? ( He doesn't want her to choke to death or anything, and it's pretty overpowering for him too, so he attempts to usher her back towards the main door for some fresher air. ) Did you put it out yet?
no subject
[ she huffs, out of both indignation and of the need for clean air once they're back out, and looks to him with an annoyed expression. her priorities are clearly skewed if she's more offended at the implication of irresponsibility on her part than concerned about what effects that may have had on her and her shop.
but also... lillian knows she hasn't answered his question yet and this does demand an explanation. not every day (evening) a shop more or less explodes. ]
Um- As for what I was doing... [ it does come to mind that she could not let him know the truth. she can't tell a straight lie but she's learned how to circumvent honesty but that doesn't seem right. not after the concern he's shown and the past meeting of theirs still fresh in her mind.
she bites back a sigh and hopes this doesn't get her trouble in the long run of things. ]
I was making a shrapnel bomb. [ she looks over her store. ] Trying to.
no subject
Until the concern hits. People don't normally try to build those for shits and giggles, there's got to be something serious going on. ) Why the fuck do you wanna make one of those? ( At least he doesn't sound mad? )
no subject
she sighs in relief and rubs the side of her neck in worry, looking around to make sure they were alone. they had to be since most shops here were closed at this hour and everyone headed home. ]
Well… That happens to be a long story but one that you deserve to know… Is there somewhere nearby that we can talk about this privately?
[ so, you know, they don't draw attention to any passerby should one come. not every day you see pins and needles going up in smoke. ]
no subject
This'll work. Just talk quiet. ( As he's doing now. He sticks fairly close to her so they can whisper, frowning as he looks between her and her shop a couple times. ) You get yourself in to somethin' you shouldn't have?
no subject
[ no point in lying or trying to bend the truth with ghoul. she didn't have to involve herself in this and yet she did. even after gregory told her what was going on in an attempt to warn her of the danger, not tip her off.
he would disapprove of her decision, no doubt, along with her parents and other fae who felt she was too soft-hearted for her own good but you know what? no. this is her way of helping them and if it meant that she could help more innocents along the way, she'll brave the consequences her decisions will have.
horrid smoke and all. ]
There's been a series of assaults and disappearances going on lately. All happening over at Redbridge and Waltham Forest and-
[ how to word this? ] -I think they're all on purpose. I also think they're all meant to undermine if not outright harm the East End Pack.
no subject
Y'know who's doin' it yet, or is the plan to blast everybody 'til it stops?
no subject
[ so it was a vampire then. of course it was. ] Admittedly, it's a lot more difficult to do than I previously thought. Those internet recipes I printed out are useless.
no subject
Instead he's horrified. ) Holy shit, that did not just come outta your mouth. ( Oh shit, there can not possibly be any more no in that sentence. He actually has to indulge the urge to drag his hands down his face, because holy fucking shit. The internet.
The internet!! ) That's like youtubing open heart surgery, fuck! ( Bomb building is a delicate craft!
It's fine. This is fine. They can fix this. ) Nevermind, um- when do you need it?
no subject
she doesn't have a lot of friends, okay?? her experience with anything outside of fashion and tends is kind of limited. hence: internet and google search. (and no, before anyone asks. she doesn't use the incognito browser.)]… What? [ is he going to help her? just like that, with no fuss or frills?
lillian isn't going to question too much for now. not when she still has half a dozen things to do after this. she at least shoots him a look of gratefulness, reminding herself that this means she's in his debt and she will pay him back somehow. ]
Um- I need it by tomorrow evening. A shrapnel bomb that's made primarily of wood. [ one is all she needs, frankly. it simply needs to make a hell of an explosion and leave a nasty impression on the vampire.
this is all short notice and is a tall order, she knows, but she's kind of on a tight deadline here. especially if she wants to keep this all a secret from the media while their attention is diverted. (though nearly blowing up her shop would be counter productive to such measures but she's trying.) ]
no subject
This isn't really a skill he wants people to know about, but he can't let her just blow herself up. Or, for that matter, go shopping for someone with the necessary know-how on such short notice. Pulling a bomb-builder off Craigslist or whatever would be a good way for her to end up with a psycho on her doorstep. ) You ain't off the hook yet, but first I gotta look at what you got in there.
no subject
[ the relief in her voice is palpable and her shoulders slump down as if the burden of the world left her. she had been stressed over the idea of not having this key item on her when she confronted the vampire, viewing it as the linchpin of capturing the scoundrel.
well, that means that this is a debt she won't mind paying back in the future. ]
Um- The supplies should be the real things. An acquaintance of mine assured me of that when they got it for me and they, ah, have a lot of knowledge about this. [ for some reason. she never asked the fae how they knew so much about bomb making. it was rather scary so she let it slide. ]
no subject
So, I'm gonna go back in and see what you've got goin' on. ( It's probably aired out enough by now... ) You wanna stay out here, or?
[ FOR JC; BEFORE THE 11TH ]
just a bit.
what she's gathered so far has her worried and, sometimes, she wonders if she should push through with her investigations or not but- after seeing everyone in pain or confusion over the attacks and disappearances, it only strengthened her resolve to see this to the bitter end.
even if it somehow had her meeting the duke of london central himself. in all her time of being here in london, she's never met one of the considered elites of the community. (at least in safe conditions.) this unnerves her but she does her best to keep a level head during the meeting, knowing it could be a chance to not only help those in need but help her and the fae as well. ]
Duke- It's an honour to meet you. [ she curtsies, unsure of how protocols with vampires really goes but it wouldn't hurt to stick with tried and true methods of etiquette. ] Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to meet someone like me. It's- It's a surprise, truth be told.
no subject
Not at all. I am always grateful to receive visitors.
no subject
… except this. this is definitely something she's never experienced before and it's obvious with how red her face is becoming when she can't help but turn to the source of the music and oh. it takes her a second to look back at the duke and a few more seconds for her brain to work again.
maybe they had a point after all but now is not the time. she tries to keep her chin up and ignores how warm her cheek feels to focus on the discussion at hand. this was a serious matter that had to be dealt with. ]
I hope I'm not considered the troublesome type then. [ here, she flashes a small but well-meaning smile. she honestly doesn't want to be a pest. she wants to help out with this somehow. ] You must have learned about my recent investigation over at Redbridge and Waltham Forest.
[ and the type of questions she was starting to ask. ]
no subject
Perhaps I have, although it is not always wise to assume anything, now is it, mon amie? Tell me, how may I help you?
no subject
I need your help regarding the incidents over at the East End Pack's territories. [ lillian's face is red, bright and obvious, though it's hard to tell if it's from embarrassment still or from the mental exertion of gathering all her courage to request that.
what can't be denied, however, is the steely determination in her eyes and the certainty in her voice. she does her best to keep her voice low but she never wavers nor allows her voice to break. ] I know this is the work of a vampire. One who goes against everything the Nest stands for. I've seen what they've done and I wish to stop it somehow.
no subject
He moves to lean his chin in his hand, regarding her carefully for a long moment as he does.] And what do you propose to do to stop it, then?
[It intrigues him, the fact that she has gone through all this effort to have collected the information about the vampire and then brought it to him. He finds himself rather charmed, all things considered.]
[ FOR EAMES; BEFORE THE 11TH ]
it made lillian feel uneasy to ask for more as is. after all he and the others had done for her just a few weeks earlier, she should really find a way to repay the literal chance of life again. but at the same time- with some supplies out of her reach, be it status or resources, it wouldn't hurt to ask for a hand.
at the very least she hopes for a direction to where she can get her items.
she lets him choose the meeting place after reaching out for her requested talk with him and is punctual. she arrives on time with a smile on her face to show her excitement for the talk and a quick curtsy to show her respect. even she recognises his position in his court after all and the efforts he's made to the fae community in london. if anyone could help it could be him…! ]
Thank you so much for taking the time to see me, Milord. I promise to not take up too much of your time.
no subject
'Milord'? [He laughs, shaking his head. Truthfully he doesn't think he'll ever be comfortable with his status.] Just call me Eames.
no subject
lillian nods in reply, trying to remind herself to do that for the meeting as she takes a seat. ] Then allow me to address you proper then.
Thank you, Eames. For everything so far. I promise to repay you for the kindness you showed me earlier. [ a small pause. ] After I've finished with this task of mine.
no subject
And what task is that?
no subject
she explains that she's been investing a series of assaults and disappearances that's been occurring over redbridge and waltham forest. so she doesn't outright say it, she does heavily imply it's the work of a rogue vampire. it'll explain why it's happening at east end territories and why individuals like tandra hahn were targeted. vampires and werewolves never did get along.
the recent tensions hasn't been helping matters. ] -and I wish to get rid of it quietly as possible. I was hoping to do it by tomorrow evening, before the media catches wind of this, but I'm short on some… special supplies.
It's why I came to you. I was hoping you could please point me to the right direction. [ she knows better than to drag him into this should anything unfortunate happen. ] I wouldn't bother you if I could since I know you're so busy with what's been happening but time is of the essence.
no subject
I know a few decent suppliers. [He pulls out his phone to scroll through his contacts.] You'll be wanting wooden ammunition, right?
no subject
R-Really? You'll help me? [ just like that? no need to haggle or negotiate terms or reach an agreement?
this is new for her. she's become so used to paying tribute or debt to higher ranked fae that she already drawn out the plans to make him a special article of clothing. how strange this week has been for her. ] -Thank you. Thank you so much.
no subject
[Plus? He's kinda curious to see what it is she's capable of.]
I might call on you to repay the favour later, but it's in both of our interests to see this done well, isn't it?
[He smiles, looking up at her from his phone with a raised eyebrow.] Besides, I didn't get you away from those witches just to see you get eaten by a vampire a few weeks later.
