"Oh, I don't disagree." Lesser of two evils and all that. "Feels more like she's more willing to court a war to justify her position than strike a balance that puts her on top."
"Which just makes you wonder if she can back it up." Natasha's instinct is that she wouldn't be able to, but it all depended. For the moment, Samantha could still count Redbright an ally, and she knew from observation that she was courting others.
The fae weren't likely to be among them in the long run. Not willingly, at least.
She was willing to expect the vampires not to fall in line with it, but after so much turmoil in the last year, hard to say how much strength they'd have resist.
Natasha's thoughts process it all in a moment of silence.
"Whether or not she can, she certainly has the means to make a fucking mess of the city trying to achieve it," Eames says it with a grimace and another liberal sip of his drink. Daybreak on their own have the means to be one hell of a problem, and from the way she spoke to him Eames would guess that Samantha is far and away smart and capable enough to make friends elsewhere. Friends who'll follow her down this path.
He swills the glass, an idle gesture as he remembers what Finnick said, and hefts a heavy sigh before he continues.
"It's been suggested that's what she wants anyway. To force our hand so she can justify the fight-- justify her plans."
"That would be in line with what I was thinking." Her expression is serious as she considers that piece. It was a convincing theory. No reason to hide your ambition if on the one hand maybe you'll get what you want from the outset, and you look powerful, or on the other hand you look justified to people who didn't consider the situation too closely, or who were inclined to side with humans to start with.
She sighs, pursing her lips. "It's a compelling theory, but at this point speculation."
"Then there'll have to be some digging to find it." And Natasha intends to pick at it. Eventually she'd like to see with Sylvia knows, since she has experience with Samantha, but she's not inclined to do that without more direction than they have between them at the moment.
"That's the plan." He'd very much like to go rooting around in every dark closet of Samantha's background, and he plans to do as much of that as possible, "once I decide on the best place to start."
"I have an idea where I intend to start." And she imagines he won't like it, but Natasha doesn't intend to ignore her best resource because she has her own political agenda.
"Sylvia knows her through her late husband." Not necessarily a close tie, but enough to start finding out what stones to turn over. "Figured I'd see if I could find out who some of her school friends were. Something like that."

He has plans to go looking into things a little more later, but... So far he hasn't turned up much about her at all.
