A. What Do Vampires Do Best?

So, Cooper had won the seat on the Night Council. He had to admit that he wasn't sure that he was going to win the election. The competition had been fierce. But apparently the vampires of London had their heads screwed on straight. When he found out the news, he immediately let out a whoop and holler. Then he remembered that he was now a representative and now had to act with more decorum. He'd accepted the position gratefully.

So how to celebrate? Well, there was the traditional vampire method. He was throwing a party in his apartment, which let's face it, was spacious enough for about three parties going on at once. Everyone was invited. Yes, everyone, even those from factions the Nest was in conflict with, or those people that Cooper didn't particularly personally care for. He wanted it to be known he wasn't just exclusively about vampires and was willing to work with other supernatural types for the greater good. It was as good a time as any to approach with any issues other vampires may have wanted him to approach the Council about.

While he is his usual cheerful self as he goes around greeting everyone, those who know Cooper well will notice that he seems a bit distracted. Lately, he's been picking up on the emotions of those around him. It's not entirely a surprise. These things sometimes happen to vampires when they sire a certain number of vampires, or in Cooper's case, reach a certain age. However, suddenly developing empathic powers can be hard to adjust to. Knowing when everyone's lying, feeling sad, or suddenly horny is not the best thing in the world.

B. With Great Power...

Despite his usual irreverent personality, Cooper is taking his duties seriously. Now they're double-fold thanks to being both a Marquess and the Representative. Only one thing to do when he's got a list of vampires who all want to talk to him about their grievances. Out comes the motorcycle and off into London he goes. First up was the lawyer who specialized in keeping vampires out of trouble. Getting some of them to obey the laws of London and actually serve their sentences when they were caught by mortal police was a pain. Occasionally, calling in for back-up in the form of the Marquess was required.

He went along his day, checking in on one of his favorite blood donors to make sure she wasn't being taken advantage of by the older vampires in the nest. After talking to Shady Heavens, the infamous drag queen and her tally of grievances that ran sky high, Cooper decided he needed a break. Stopping at a fish 'n chips place, he was perched on his motorcycle, gnawing away at his lunch, and occasionally drinking from a flask of blood at his hip. He was bracing himself against the brushes of emotions he kept feeling from different passerby. Oh, he would be so glad when he got this new gift under control.

"Psh, their loss." He waves a hand in the air. But Cooper, for all his flippant ways, was taking note of who had failed to show up. He had noticed several older vampires like Joss were definitely not coming. They would be remembered later on. Everything came on around in a full circle.

"I know you're veggie 'n all, but can I get anythin' else for you?"

"I wouldn't say no to some wine. Something red?" It's cliche, but she prefers red. The flavor is stronger, and her palate isn't what it used to be. Plus the smell helped cover the scent of blood. A bonus in her case.

"Thank you—though shouldn't someone else do things like that for you now?"

"Are you suggesting I should get people to do things for me?" He looks surprised as if the idea had never even occurred to him. "I probably should, but my Ma would roll over in her grave if she saw I wasn't being a good host." Mrs. Cooper had been a very formidable woman to raise a son who had started off life by becoming a revolutionary.

He walked over to the bar in the corner. Of course he had his own permanent bar in his apartment, he was Irish. He pulled a bottle of red wine and a glass over, holding it by the stem so that he didn't seem like a complete savage.

"I wouldn't say I'm suggesting anything. I'm... observing what might normally be expected from someone in your position." Natasha smiles at his assessment of his mother. "I'm comfortable letting your mother rest in peace if you are."

When she takes the wine glass, it's in light fingers, deceptively delicate.

"So how are you taking to it otherwise?"

"I'm definitely not what people expect of someone in my position." He winks at her. Cooper is the very opposite of what most people think of when they imagine a vampire in power: he's young, short-tempered, impulsive, and rough around the edges. Still, these qualities seemed to have worked to his advantage during the campaign when he presented himself as being a sort of everyman.

"Like a duck to water. I've got big plans t'whip this Nest back into shape. I've run one before, so I know the ins and outs of how best to do it." Granted, the nest he'd been in charge of in America had been significantly smaller, but the basic principles remained the same.

"That so? Is that the kind of thing you can talk to me about, or since I'm not part of the nest, do I not get to know?" She says it in a light tone, not seriously pressing him. If he declines to explain, then no reason for either of them to carry hard feelings about it.

But she is interested.

"Different nests seem to have very different ideas about what it means."

"Nah. I made sure t'present some of my thoughts when I was campaigning. I want the Nest to be more open, less of this seeing people as only food attitude. The last two leaders before JC had attitudes like that 'n look where it got them." Cooper gets much more animated as he talks about his plans, something he's been looking forward to for a long time.

"I wouldn't mind being more open in general to other factions, but people do love to fight. And there's a few groups that will make it hard t'play nice." The werewolves and fae were never going to want to get together, hold hands, and sing Kumbaya.

"At least the new leader seems like he's more on your side." She smiles slightly, but it's a little pained. "I'm hoping at least. It'd be a lot easier for us if we could, I think. Not that there aren't other challenges, but at least them we wouldn't be making our own."

It's clear she means vampires since she's not a part of the nest, and she's made it clear she has no intention of changing sides now. But it's also clear she understands and identifies herself as what she is—a vampire. She can't escape that.

"At least a few people might be willing to play nice if we prove we can."
