Islington Nest Christmas Party, Dec 17 [Open to all Nest members and their guests]

Caroline has worked hard to put together the evening's event, which is not only a Christmas party but also hopefully a chance for the Nest to celebrate its new leadership. The room at the Angelo has been decorated with a winter wonderland theme which, while not exactly original, is quite lovely.

A string quartet is playing a selection of Christmas and other classical music. Any attempts to feed on the musicians will result in the perpetrator getting thrown out the party, or worse. But feeding on any of the hired help or performers should be unnecessary, since several varieties of "blood punch" are available to drink. There is also food and other drinks available for non-vampire guests and anyone else who wishes to partake.

There is a strict black tie only dress code and Caroline will tell anyone who is under-dressed to go home and change.

[The event is happening on Dec 17th but I wanted to get it up early so everyone had time to do get involved if they so desired.]

"You think right," Natasha says, giving a professional smile. She thinks she's seen Caroline once or twice, always at Islington events. They two of them never had reason to interact, though. Not until now, at least.

"Natasha." She sips her wine, considering if she ought to offer more than that. Explain what she's doing here, for one. "Cesare extended an invitation my way. Hopefully you don't mind?"

"Not at all, the more the merrier. I love your dress, by the way." She however isn't sure how exactly it's staying put. Probably tape.

"So, are you enjoying the party so far?" Ah, the joys of small talk. But maybe it would lead to more information about who Natasha is.

Some mysteries are not so easily solved. Double sided tape, careful fitting and wishful thinking is probably the correct answer though. "Thank you. It's not often I get the chance to dress up like this. Might as well take advantage of it."

Natasha's gaze flits around the room at Caroline's question, making a show of her study. "There's quite the atmosphere—I do love the decorations. Makes up for not having much in the way of real snow."

"Thanks," she says, looking around too. "I'm still getting used to this whole no snow for Christmas thing. First winter in London. So I thought it might be nice to go all white and dazzling for the decor. Plus," she added, looking down at her own outfit, "I knew it would match my dress."

"You were in America before this?" The accent gives her away. Natasha smiles slightly as she observes it. "I can sympathize with being used to something else. A little colder—more snow."

Her lips twitch slightly. "This is better. No cold feet."

"Yes, Virginia born and raised." Saying that probably outs her as being pretty young. London has made her very aware of the fact that she's still a baby vampire.

She nods. "I do like the no cold feet part, especially when I'm wearing heels. I'm just not sure how much it will feel like Christmas without snow."

"It's hard to believe it's Christmas at all," Natasha says, her eyes falling briefly. Last spring, she would have had a hard time believing she'd be attending a party with the London nest tonight. Being alive at all had seemed low odds on its own.

"It's been a while since I observed.

"Yeah, definitely. I can't believe I've been here for half a year already." It had been a very interesting half a year too. Very different than back home. Luckily, most of the differences had been good ones, at least lately.

"Well, it seems to be treating you well." She says it impersonally, pleasant small talk, holding her drink lightly near her mouth as she does. "You've earned their trust where making something like this happen is concerned."

"Yeah, I guess I have." Caroline smiles, thinking about all the craziness that's gone on with the Nest. "I've never been involved in anything quite like it."

"What, you weren't in a nest before, or are they different in America?" Both seem reasonable, really. She knows nests were different in Russia were different, but in many ways... what was under the surface had been the same.

At least until Jean-Claude took power. She was cautiously optimistic that would change with his influence.

"I lived in a small town, so there weren't really any nests or things like that. From what I can tell, some cities as least have a bit more ... structure. I know New Orleans does."

Caroline sometimes wonders if having nests and things like them actually make it harder. Back in Mystic Falls, she could be best friends with a witch and date a werewolf. It wasn't quite as simple here. Of course, Nancy was a witch and her best friend in London. She was also allied with the nest though.

"You don't see too many vampires in small towns." At least not in Natasha's experience, but the situation had been very different back home than here, or in America. Still, Natasha tended to associate vampires with cities. Places there were a lot of people, and most people wouldn't notice if a few went missing.

"Yeah ... Mystic Falls isn't exactly the typical small town." It's amazing to think that Caroline ever thought differently. Of course, things had changed when the Salvatore brothers came back into town.

"Is that so?" Natasha's answer is politely curious, but the interest in her eyes is real. If Caroline wants to talk about it more, she'll find an audience here. "I always thought of small towns as more werewolf friendly."

Caroline doesn't mind talking about home - in fact, she often quite likes it, as long as she doesn't get to some of the more traumatic parts of her life there.

"I guess Mystic Falls was lucky, if you could call it that. It got both." Granted, there had been no werewolves with activated curses in town until Tyler, but the Lockwoods has just as illustrious a history in town as any other Founding family.

"You know how rare that is?" She phrases it as a question, but she thinks Caroline must know. Compared to most places, even London is less tense.

Though recent events might be changing that.

"In Russia, the fight was barely staying out of the streets."

"Yeah, I've gathered as much." Mystic Falls really was one of the kind. She wasn't sure if the town would be proud of that or not.

"I've never been to Russia." Though Moscow is on her vacation list.

"Believe me, you're better off not. At least for the time being." Give it a few more decades and who knows? Things changed, and sometimes they changed fast.

"I'm pretty set for the time being but I'll keep that in mind, thanks." There were lots of other places on the list she could go to first. Paris was probably next, since it was so close.

And there was always Tokyo.

"London has a lot to offer." Which seems to Natasha like as far as that particular conversation needs to go. She sips from her glass, using the gesture to buy time as she considers how, or if, she she should change the topic.

Caroline isn't sure what else to talk about, truth be told. It's made harder since she doesn't quite know what Natasha is, even if assuming vampire is probably a decently safe bet in a place like this. But she also doesn't really want to talk too much about the Nest and its politics - it would spoil the festive mood.
