Islington Nest Christmas Party, Dec 17 [Open to all Nest members and their guests]

Caroline has worked hard to put together the evening's event, which is not only a Christmas party but also hopefully a chance for the Nest to celebrate its new leadership. The room at the Angelo has been decorated with a winter wonderland theme which, while not exactly original, is quite lovely.

A string quartet is playing a selection of Christmas and other classical music. Any attempts to feed on the musicians will result in the perpetrator getting thrown out the party, or worse. But feeding on any of the hired help or performers should be unnecessary, since several varieties of "blood punch" are available to drink. There is also food and other drinks available for non-vampire guests and anyone else who wishes to partake.

There is a strict black tie only dress code and Caroline will tell anyone who is under-dressed to go home and change.

[The event is happening on Dec 17th but I wanted to get it up early so everyone had time to do get involved if they so desired.]

While Nancy only has eyes for Cooper, she also happens to have eyes. Which is to say, she can recognize that Jean-Claude is actually really terribly attractive. She didn't like to, but she did.

"Thank you." She inclines her head, then looks back at the food. Oh. She frowns just a little, looking at her cocktail shrimp. "Well, it's... fishy. A little firm, but solid. Cold, as well. The cocktail sauce adds some sharpness to it." She's really not good at describing food. She very rarely had clients ask her to, over dinner. Most ate around her, though perhaps it was just to make her feel more comfortable.

Jean-Claude cannot help what he is or how he looks. Given that fact, he might as well embrace it. It's how he has lived (debatable, considering his current state as the undead, but still) his whole life up until this moment.

He looks back to the food as Nancy starts to describe it, although 'fishy' and 'cold' is hardly enticing, and by the end of it all he is shaking his head and chuckling slightly as he does. "Ah, if only everyone appreciated food in the way that you do, mon amie," he teases, gently.

Nancy frowns, just a little. "I appreciate food quite a lot," she tells him honestly. "If you'd ever gone hungry, you'd know." She's easily defensive, even knowing who and what Jean-Claude is. He's all that, and more to her, besides. But she was trying. Really hard. To get along with him. For everyone's sake.

And more and more, she realizes, for Cooper's.

He glances aside to her at the response she gives. Fiery and defensive even now, even though she's trying to be reasonable with him. Trying to get along. He can appreciate her efforts. It's why, when he speaks up, he gives her a little in return.

"I have," he replies. "Gone hungry." He turns back to the table before them. "When I was young, we were starving. My family had a house with a dirt floor. They sold me off to the nearest royalty in exchange for enough money for food on their table. The only reason it worked is because I was easy on the eyes." He looks back up at her. "We are not so different as you think, you and I."

The world shifts under her, a hollow feeling in her chest and she's not sure she can really see anything at the moment. What Jean-Claude just told her...

Her mouth is dry and she goes for her drink. "I'm... I'm sorry that happened to you." She swallows thickly and blinks a few times. She can't tell him her life story, people don't get the whole thing, not even Cooper. She gives everyone bits and pieces when she has to.

Dodger knew the most, but because he had been there.

"No, we aren't," she confirms. She doesn't like to say it, but their beauty, their bodies, had been used against them.

Nancy finishes off her glass.
