gonna drink bacardi like it's yo birthday [nancy's 20]
Twenty. Gods, Nancy could hardly believe it. She didn't expect to still be here for this day, truth be told. She knew the sort of life she lived, and the sorts of people she associated with. But against all odds, here she was. Twenty-years-old by Fagin's count, and as wonderful as that was...
It was odd. She'd been a teenager for so long, and now she was officially a twenty-something. An adult, for real this time, not like when she'd turned eighteen.
It didn't exactly help that Charley Bates had decided it was a great idea to call her 'old'. She'd hit the back of his head for that, refusing to consider herself old. She was still so young, at least in comparison to those she spent most of her time around, people that were centuries older than her.
This, of course, caused her some angst. She hadn't particularly wanted to celebrate her birthday. It wasn't anything to be glad about. She was, as she realized, three years physically older than Cooper. And that just felt... weird. She knew, mentally, he was far older than she was. And as he always said she was stuck with him until she was old and grey, but...
Would he still love her, then, she wanted to know? How weird would it be, an haggard old woman next to this cute seventeen-year-old kid. A chill ran up her spine when she thought about it, comparing the wretch that Fagin was to her hypothetical-old-woman-self.
If she lived that long.
Still, people want to celebrate with her. Eames, wonderful Eames, had surprised her with tickets to go see a show on the West End, and taken her out to an amazing restaurant. She'd even brought cake over to the boys', knowing a few of them had saved up to get her something. Or, likely, stole it. But she didn't reach out, not really. If you were lucky enough to know it was her birthday, however, she'd happily entertain any and all plans. There was no need to be rude, after all.

Nancy's 20 aww yiss.
Uhm, this is an open post. A few starters in the comments. Want something specific? Please let me know!

"Psh, like I was going to turn down an opportunity t'spoil you." Nancy's life has already been hard enough as it is. She's got her pride, he knows that, so he doesn't want it to seem like he's rubbing it in her face. He's been looking for an opportunity so that he could give her something without her protesting that it was too much or too expensive.
"C'mon. You tell me what's really goin' on in that head of yours." It wasn't like her to be this down in the dumps. He rubs his thumb over the edge of her hand, looking at her with adoring eyes. "Why you want to forget that you're twenty?"
no subject
She sighs. "It just seems... Cooper... I'm twenty. Physically twenty. I think I saw a gray hair the other day. And you know I love you, so much, but-" she gestures vaguely at him. "I'm old."
no subject
"Lemme get this right. You think that you're old. That's what's got you in such a tiff?" He tries hard not to laugh, but once the first chuckle starts to escape him, he can't stop. Of all the melodramatic moments Nancy has had since he's known her, this is her absolute finest. That, more than the physical age, highlights what a difference there is between them.
He continues to laugh, unable to stop himself. Each time he opens up his mouth and tries to tell her something, another bout of laughter escapes him. There's tears streaming down his face and his pale face has gone a lovely bright shade of pink. His chair tilts dangerously far back, threatening to dump him right onto the floor.
Finally, unable to breathe, he's forced to either quiet down or risk death by suffocation. Sucking in a nice big breath of air, he manages to finally regain a measure of composure, though one last chuckle does escape him before he finally can speak again. "Sweet-pea, for God's sakes, I thought somethin' was really wrong. I hate t'break it to you, but you're twenty, not sixty. You're at the peak of your youth 'n you've never looked lovelier."
no subject
She presses her lips together, waiting for him to stop laughing. Because it's not funny. It's not. He'll never have to deal with getting older. He's stuck at seventeen, and she's not.
"That's not just it, Cooper," she finally manages, her voice tight. "I'm twenty now, yeah, but then I'll be sixty- and you'll.... not be."
no subject
He's trying to take her seriously, really he is. It's just difficult to get past the melodramatic nature she has of basically saying she's an ancient crone at the ripe old age of twenty. Grey hairs indeed. "You do realize that's gonna happen in forty years, not tomorrow, right?"
He shouldn't dismiss her fears so lightly. It's not like he hasn't thought the exact same thing himself. Sure, it's fine right now, but what's going to happen in five years when she's twenty-five and he's still stuck as a teenager? He knows she eventually wants a family and that's something that he can never give her. This relationship, no matter how wonderful it is for the both of them, does have a finite date on it, even if they don't know when that's going to be yet. The thought manages to sober him up some. "Look, let's worry 'bout the future when it actually comes around. There's no point in sittin' here 'n being glum just 'cause we've got a little bit of an age gap."
no subject
She lets out a melodramatic groan. "I know, I know. You're right, but it's so hard to forget right now. Everyone's celebrating, but..." She shakes her head. It's another reminder she's not going to live a very long life.
"Do you like birthdays, Cooper? What do you think of 'em? Do you celebrate yours at all, or..." she asks him softly, looking up. Caroline had said a lot of vampires thought they were important.
no subject
The question about birthdays makes him look down at his hands. "I'm two-hundred 'n thirty-five." He's not sure he's ever told Nancy that before in so many words. "I used to hate 'em 'cause it meant everyone else around me was gettin' older while I was stayin' the same. Really hit home when the last of the Rebellion chaps died." He looks back up. "Then I reached a turnin' point about the time I met my mentor Stefan. He taught me to embrace immortality, among other things. Got a more zen attitude about it these days. Just take it one year at a time."
no subject
She lets out a low 'wow' as he finally says his age. She had no idea. She knew that some vampires like Jean-Claude or Cesare were extremely old. But Cooper, she assumed at least somewhere in his middle one-hundreds. But as it turned out, he was far older. Far older and she really had no idea about his past. She presses her lips together and puts a hand on his shoulder.
"One year at a time isn't something that's never worked for me. The next year's never been promised." It still wasn't.
no subject
Her morbidity made whatever mirth that was still remaining at Nancy's predicament disappear. He hadn't even thought about it like that. Cooper leans over, taking her face in his hands. He kisses her lightly on the forehead. "I promise you'll always see next year as long as I'm around."
no subject
Nancy leans into him. "We both know you can't promise that, John." Since he'd told her his full name, she reserved the right to use his first name for Serious Things. "No one can. I learned that a long, long time ago. I don't think I'll live past 35."
To her, it was a miracle she'd made it to 20. Girls like her don't live long lives.
no subject
Cooper knows she's right. No matter what he does, she's a girl with a high risk job and knows more than her share of risky, dangerous men. He can't watch her twenty-four/seven, so all he can do is have hope for the future. "I'll do my best." He gives her a long, lingering kiss that speaks of a promise to always protect her with everything he has.
"Now, no more doom 'n gloom. I order you t'open that present 'n be happy about it," he said jokingly. Within the plain brown package was a beautiful antique emerald necklace and a pair of earrings to match. He'd gotten them specifically to match Nancy's eyes and hair. He waited, anxious as any human boyfriend would be for her reaction to her gifts.
no subject
"I trust you," she whispers back. It's her highest honor. Even above love, trust.
She takes the package back in hand, and gives him a look. "What did I tell you- don't order me around unless I'm naked." She winks, peeling off the paper gingerly. When she opened the box, however, she gasped, nearly dropping it.
"Cooper- oh my gods. You didn't." Reverently, she runs her hands over the large emeralds, the diamonds. "They're beautiful-" her voice cracks. "It's the greatest gift anyone's ever given me." Better than anything from johns, certainly. Though she liked those gifts, too, this was something different. Something far, far better.
Because it came from love.
no subject
That was the best reaction that he could have hoped for. Cooper blushes a bright pink, for once looking as young as his eternally teenaged face would suggest. He knew she had some expensive, beautiful things from her line of work, but giving her this was completely different. He'd wanted to spoil her, the way that he felt she should be treated all the time. He also wanted to show Nancy just how important she was to him.
"I'm--" He squeaks the word out before clearing his throat so that he could speak properly. "--I'm so glad that you like 'em." This was how he'd been hoping the day would go from the start.

She pulls the earrings out first, threading them through her lobes, and moves on to the necklace, next, holding it out to Cooper. "Help me with it?" Before pulling her hair up and away from her neck so that he could fasten it.
no subject
Cooper has a big, goofy grin on his face when she pulls back from that kiss. "I should get you presents more often." Good thing Christmas is coming up. He can go to town and spoil her completely rotten.
His large fingers take a minute to work the small clasp, threading it through the chain and clipping it on. He turns her around so he can admire the view of the green jewelry against her pale skin. It compliments her red hair very well. "You look so beautiful." And here she was thinking she was five minutes away from grey hairs and wrinkled crow's feet.
no subject
Gods, what was she going to get him? That was the real question.
Nancy smiles up at him, absolutely glowing. "Thank you, Cooper." Here she was in her pajamas, bathrobe, and no makeup on. Boy must have been absolutely smitten. "Thank you so much."
no subject
Cooper smiles at her again, pleased as punch that she's so thrilled with her gifts.
"So what's the plans for the rest of the day?" He knows her friends are probably planning her something, so he hadn't counted on having her for the whole day, unless she wanted him to tag along. Hopefully, she hadn't been planning to sit around and mope all day over being "old."
no subject
"Not much- Caroline's coming over to the office for a girls' night, I left her incharge, for better or worse." The office was what she called the property Eames had given her in Canary Warf for work. It was a good place to bring people when she didn't want to interrupt Cooper.
"And I've a coffee scheduled with my 'parole officer'." That was Lance, as she'd called him a few times. "What about you?" She gives him a small look, a twinkle in her eye. Birthday sex. She'll be completely naked except for the emeralds.
no subject
Cooper runs his hands through her red hair, letting her scent wash over him. He listens to her plans with some satisfaction, glad that there's at least one other vampire he can trust with Nancy without having to get worried or jealous. Caroline's young, but she's proven to be a good sort thus far.
"I can think of a few things we can do." He toys with the tie of her robe, a impish sort of grin on his face. There was another reason he likes birthdays. Of course, any reason for sex is a good one in Cooper's mind.
no subject
"Oh? Do tell." He doesn't need to say anything, but her hands are fast, working at his belt already. "Though I think we're on the same page."
no subject
"Oh, I figure I should start at the top--" He gave her a brief kiss on the lips. "'N work my way down. Or start from the bottom 'n work my way to the top. Your choice, sweet-pea." Either way, he was going to be make sure it was long, sweet, and very good for Nancy. She didn't get enough of that in her life.
no subject
"Let's start at the top," she says, and slides his shirt up over his head. "And take our time going down." Long, slow, and loving.
