"How is it even remotely close to before?" he asks immediately. They had never been abroad together before. They had never gone on a trip like this before. They had never tried to do anything like this, either as escort and client, or as friends. This is completely different to him.

"It just seems too intimate. I've never gone on a trip with my boyfriend, I can't suddenly just up and go on a vacation with you. Do you have any idea what Cooper would think?" She sits back in her chair.

"It's off the table."

Cesare isn't used to Nancy negotiating with him, or flat out rejecting his requests. To be honest, he's barely used to anyone acting like this with him. His brow furrows.

"You know I don't give a fuck about what Cooper thinks." If Cooper hasn't managed to get his shit together and take her on a trip then that isn't Cesare's problem.

"You've made that very clear." and she didn't mind that. What she did mind, however.

"But there are more people than just you in this, Cesare. And I don't want to go on vacation with you. I'm sorry. But I don't. And if you're my friend, you'll understand and let it go." That's how friendship works. She thinks.

Just this once, Cesare has no choice but to deal with the rejection. He rolls his eyes and takes a sip of his wine.

"What can we do then?" Because right now it seems like Nancy is crossing ideas off one by one. He never knew friendship had so many restrictions.

The ball remains in her court and she is content to dribble. that's a sports metaphor, right?

"Anything that doesn't resemble a date, or could even be misconstrued as one." She thought that was very clear and fair.

"So this then?" Cesare challenges, his shoulders stiffening. If those are her requirements and a simple holiday isn't allowed, then this meal certainly wouldn't be permissible either. Nancy isn't exactly off to the best start.

"And is this an old set of rules or a new one? Because I'm fairly certain we've participated in a plenitude of activities that could be mistaken for romantic."

Nancy glares at him. "Friendship is different from fucking, you don't have to buy me dinner as foreplay. There's nothing sexual about this relationship now, Cesare."

She finishes off her drink

"So new rules. Nothing construed as romantic."

"So a meal isn't romantic but a vacation is? I had no idea. I've been leading my friends along all this time."

He thinks this is complete nonsense and he would like to make that particularly clear. Her theory doesn't even vaguely hold water.

She nods. "yeah, it's lunch. So it's not romantic." She couldn't explain it better than that. She never had really great experiences with friendships or romances.

Cesare's fairly certain that there's no way he can convince her out of her foolishness at this point, so he just rolls his eyes and decides to move on.

"Where are you working now?" He asks it outright, totally ok with doing so. She had said she had found another place to work from. He'd like to find out where that is.

Nancy pauses for a moment. Tell him, and he can find her. But at the same time, she doesn't want him to find her anymore. She didn't tell him in the first place for the security but that was after he tried to hire her for his friends.

This was different.

in a show of friendship, she speaks. "Canary Warf."

That amuses Cesare a lot. Canary Wharf has a reputation for very business driven. It's the financial district, after all. To be honest, he's surprised Nancy managed to find a place to work that wasn't an office block in a skyscraper.

"Trying to catch the stockbrokers on their lunch break?"

She crosses her arms.

"An opportunity arose and I took it. I have a lot of clients in that area." Or clients that were willing to travel. It meant less street work, which she couldn't be more happy about.
