stauncherhearted: (I take my birth control with wine)

This Can Only End Well (Sept. 1st)

What: Dinner party! Hope you like appetizers for dinner. And wine. And disaster.
Where: Nancy's flat in Enfield
Who: Eames, Arthur, Cooper, Kyle- time to meet the boyfriend, everyone!
When: September 1st.

Though the affair is set to be somewhat casual, Nancy has spent hours on that Thursday cleaning her flat, preparing food, and generally getting ready. Thursday night because Friday nights tended to be good nights for business, so she wasn't sacrificing nearly as much if she had everyone over on a Thursday.

The idea she'd had was to introduce everyone to Cooper officially. Get Eames to see that it was a great idea to date him, and maybe Kyle would be completely smitten with the idea of Cooper's existence in her life and allow Nancy to invite the vampire in to their future apartment. Cooper was important to her, she loved him. And she wanted others to see what she saw in him as well.

When the first guests arrive, Nancy's already had a glass of wine in her hand, ready to play dutiful hostess immediately. There's wine, magically chilled, as well as whisky and gin and some beer. For food, it's a lot of little appetizers, finger food, really. She has no idea what she's doing, truthfully, and just hopes that everyone has a good time.

Oh, and she made a cake.

If you're wondering where Juliet is, she's trying to eat the shrimp.

Arthur is watching the other three closely all the time, while also successfully making it look like he is not watching them, and he does not stop doing so when Eames approaches him.

"Guess so," he says. "To be honest I don't really get what the purpose of this whole thing is."

"It's because she cares about our opinions and wants us to approve of her awful taste in men," Eames says, pitched so his voice won't carry past Arthur while he does very much the same thing. Watching the other three whilst looking like he's not really paying attention to them at all.

Though. The realisation of what they're doing hits him and Eames almost laughs, "feeling a bit like a dad at a birthday party though, I have to say."

Arthur raises his eyebrows at that, sympathizing and thinking it over at the same time.

"Yeah I guess we must seem pretty young to you," he says.

"You don't. Not unless I think about the numbers." Arthur's one of the oldest 30 year-olds he's ever met. "They could as well be toddlers."

There goes Arthur's joke about Eames being a perv. Not that it's a joke because he is anyway. But Arthur shrugs and says, "toddlers is a strong word." A pause, and then, "we can't let them get too drunk, though. I already went through college once."

It's sort of a joke but sort of serious at the same time. He's much closer to them in age than Eames is, and he's pretty sure Kyle is at least of legal drinking age back home, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel old. When he was 20 he felt old around other 20-year-olds, so it isn't much of a shock, but it's still unpleasant.

He's such an old man, Eames would laugh if he didn't feel similarly. In no way interested in herding a bunch of young children and dealing with all those feelings they probably have.

"I'm not watching how much they drink," he tips his head to look at Arthur for a moment with a sigh, "I might leave if they get out of control though."

Arthur looks back at him like he's about to ask if he means to take him with if he leaves, but then he remembers that he is not a teenager and he needs someone to overhear that like he needs a bullet to the head, so he keeps his mouth shut.

"I don't think it will," he says soberly. "Two hunters, a witch, a fae, and a vampire... sounds like the start of a joke, not exactly a good time."

"Sounds like a meeting at the supernatural UN," a tired weight to his voice as he talks; he's bored and he doesn't care about any of this except to say that Cooper is a bad choice. "Either way, not my idea of fun."

Arthur narrows his eyes as he looks around the room, like it's a puzzle he's trying to solve, but the answer isn't coming to him easily.

"There's a drinking game in here somewhere."

"Take a drink every time a kid says something that makes you want to roll your eyes?" Eames looks into his glass and frowns, reaching for a bottle to refill it, "even I'd be drunk after that."

Arthur takes a deep breath even at the thought. "I'd be on the floor," he says gravely.

"We won't play any drinking games then," Eames says with a small laugh, "wouldn't want you to embarrass yourself."

Arthur lets out a soft huff like he might laugh if it weren't at his expense. He falls silent for a moment, thinking if this were an adult party he'd probably just go find someone else to talk to, but it's not so he's going to keep talking to Eames. It has been quite a while, after all.

"So," he says, "I gather you made a full recovery after the party last month."

"Why? Want to check?" He smirks and raises an eyebrow at Arthur like it's a joke, (it's not, he knows he does,) and moves straight on. Wouldn't want Arthur to have to answer that where childlike ears might hear.

"I'm good. Just moved to a new place, actually"

Arthur glances down at Eames' shoulder, and it's a bit hard to tell whether it's just annoyance or maybe he actually does want to check. It's that flat a look. He sighs and moves on.

"Oh yeah? Where's that?"

"Camden." So, Night Council territory, but he'll take that over vampires or Daybreak. What's he gonna do, live in Bexley? Fuck that. "Not too far from the station. It's a good area."

[personal profile] specifiercity 2016-09-09 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Arthur makes a noise like he's amused at this new information. It seems a bit like Eames to move into Camden now that the fae can come and go through Night Council territory as they please, as long ago as that deal was.

"I'll have to stop by."

Does he mean to see the house? Does he mean for sex? Is it both? It's probably both.

[personal profile] falsify 2016-09-16 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Eames assumes it's for both, which is fine by him. The decorating is coming along nicely and the sex is always good, so he makes a noise in response to indicate that this is agreeable to him. Can't seem too interested or come on to Arthur here, after all.

He sighs, looking back at the assembled youths and back down at his drink. "This drink isn't strong enough."

Arthur's shoulders slump a little bit as he transitions back from thinking about visiting Eames' new house and testing out his new bed to actually paying attention to what's going on in front of them.

"I don't think there is a strong enough drink for this."
