The Fool On The Hill
A. Cooper needed to get out more. This was quite apparent to him as word reached him of Millicent’s latest plans. Letting her vamps run wild seemed like a bad, bad idea to him. He knew a thing or two about losing control and knew none of it ever came to any good. There was no fool like an old fool. Not that Cooper would ever say such words aloud where they could get back to Miss High ‘n Mighty. He liked living, thank you very much. There was nothing to do but go for a ride. He dusted off one of his motorcycles and took off into the night.
After a few blocks, any worries he had seemed to be far away. The only one he currently had was avoiding the suicidal public, who seemed determined to walk in the middle of the road. He yelled out in annoyance at the latest person to get in his way. “Hey! Get your head outta your arse and move it!” When would he learn to keep his mouth shut? Probably never.
B. Leaving the bike behind, he hit the local pubs. It occurred to Cooper that he was a bit peckish. Seeing as how he was out of contact with his usual blood donor, he was going to need someone else to bite into. It didn’t take long for his eyes to land on someone who looked like they might be up for being used as a blood bag. He sidled on up to them and crossed his fingers there were no overzealous hunters working in this part of town.

"Have you no respect for your elders, mon ami?" he replies, in his usual drawling, French way.

He grins in an impudent sort of way when the older vampire chastises him. "None whatsoever. Mainly because they have no respect for me."
no subject
"And thus the vicious cycle continues," he says. He shakes his head, offering the other vampire something of a smile as he cocks his head slightly to the side. "Where are you off to that you're in such a hurry to be?"

"I would not fault you on your desire for an outing, though," he continues. "Especially not yourself, mon ami. It has been some time, non?" At least, he's fairly certain that he hasn't seen the younger vampire out and about as of late, but Jean-Claude himself has been busy and perhaps he is just not as observant as he might otherwise have been.

"You should learn. They're a lot of fun, even for someone as--" Don't say old, Cooper, not to a vampire as vain as Jean-Claude. Don't say it. "--seasoned as you." Good save. Cooper's mind would always be forever stuck in the late 1790s and early 1800s, but he'd found a second time period that he had enjoyed almost just as much when he'd spent most of the 1950s in America. It reflected in the way he dressed, leather jackets and white shirts.
He nods, twirling the riding goggles he wears around one finger absentmindedly as he talks. "Indeed. Just been keeping to meself mostly. But that's seven kinds of boring after a certain point, y'know?" It wasn't in Cooper's nature to sit on the sidelines while things were happening and the winds of change appeared to be blowing through the Islington Nest.

"I have never been one to keep my own company, I'm afraid," Jean-Claude replies, with another shrug. "I do not know in truth whether I would be able to tolerate myself for that long." He quirks a smirk at the other. "Besides, I've found that life is better spent in the company of others. In my experience, at least."
no subject
Cooper breathes a sigh of relief that Jean-Claude finds him amusing instead of being insulted. He's already got enough in the nest annoyed or pissed off at him for one reason or another. He doesn't need to be adding to that list.
"Well, you know what they say. The problem isn't living forever, it's living with yourself forever." Cooper has had his ups and downs over the course of his life. Sometimes, the downs seem to outnumber the ups. But he can't complain too much. Life has been good to him these past five years. Well, good save for the brief period he was cursed into the form of a binturong. He doesn't like to talk about that.

Jean-Claude huffs out something of a laugh at those words as well. Where has this Cooper been for the last while? He is a particularly amusing vampire, and such a thing is rare in this day and age. They all take themselves far too seriously, in Jean-Claude's estimation.
"You are more than right, mon ami," he replies. "Though if you have learned the secret to it, you must share with me. I am curious to know the way."
no subject
Cooper agrees. Vampires can be a particularly stuffy and serious lot. If one doesn't have a little fun living forever, then Cooper doesn't see the point. He might as well go sit in a coffin until he turns into a shriveled up mummy.
"Live a little bit each day, eat what you want, 'n take a beautiful person t'bed once in a while. That's how I've gotten to where I currently am." A hedonistic lifestyle is better than following all the rules. Cooper's got his own code of conduct that he follows.
no subject
"It is not a bad life that you describe there, mon ami," he says. "Would that I could live my own in the same way. Perhaps things would not be so complicated as they are now." It's rather introspective, especially for something for Jean-Claude to be admitting to another. So it should come as no surprise that what follows is something like humor to cover it up. "Alas, I decided to go into business..."

"What can I say?" he asks the other vampire. "I like what I like, and I know enough to understand that other people will pay good money for the same thing if presented in the right way."
no subject
"That's the first step to being a good businessman. The second is makin' sure you actually make money, no matter what's the product you're selling." Not that Cooper knows much about the inner workings of keeping a string club going. Anything overtly sexual tends to make Cooper slightly uncomfortable, due to being eternally stuck in such a young body. He'd been changed before he'd finished going through puberty and subsequently was a little self-conscious about the way he looked.
