Plot: Lambeth Territory Claim by Daybreak
Areas: Lambeth and surrounding areas!

The fae may have taken Croydon from Daybreak, but Daybreak is out to prove it is still strong -- and one Daybreak witch in particular is hoping to prove that he is the man to turn them around from the loss. Gilbert Norrell plans to bring order to the lawless territory of Lambeth, via less than pleasant means. He intends to drive out any troublemakers, anyone who disagrees with Daybreak, or have them persuaded by members of Hillingdon. Unfortunately for him, it won't be quite as easy as all that...

[ ooc; log for the Daybreak territory claim! You can give me a ping if you want to be involved and hadn't signed up already! It runs through the entire week, starting off quietly and subtly until the disappearances begin to be noticed and the fight back intensifies. Thread as little or as much as you like, start your own thread or tag what I put up for Norrell! (And sorry it's up a little late!) ]

Childermass inclines his head slightly. In truth, he is Norrell's servant. As well as his businessman, in some senses of the word. And his driver, at others. And his guard dog. In this situation he's affecting something of the latter state of being.

"And what about it?" he inquires, not particularly politely, but then again it's not his business to be polite. It's his business to keep Mr Norrell out of trouble, and he'd be doing a poor job of that indeed if he let just anyone asking about for Norrell into the house. (And he'd certainly get an earful about it later, for that matter.)

Well, can't begrudge a guy doing his job - and under normal circumstances, Eames would find Childermass' manner quite refreshing. In his current mood, however, it's a good thing he's so practiced at playing a part because at his core he is practically vibrating with annoyance and frustration at every second that ticks past with him still on this doorstep.

"Well, um. It seems pretty likely that Daybreak will have Lambeth by the end of the week and I..." Pause for nerves, "I wanted to know what he wants to do about securing the area."

Childermass' eyes travel the man over once more. Taking in the stuttering, twitchy way that he seems to be addressing him -- Norrell will not like that, no doubt. Ironically, considering Norrell's behavior himself. There is something about him that does not quite sit right with Childermass, however. He just isn't certain that he can put his finger on what.

"Who's asking?" he questions the man, which is of course Childermass' own unique way of questioning who the man is.

"Well it says Ethan Phillips on my driver's license," he chuckles nervously at his seeming attempt at a joke and pushes his glasses up his nose, frowning once the moment's passed. As one does when they know their joke's fallen flat before they even get a reaction.

Whatever Childermass thinks of the joke, it's rather hard to tell. He doesn't laugh, that's for certain. He keeps the same eyebrow raised, the same supercilious look on his face as he sizes the man up once more. Really he isn't sure what he's doing wasting his time like this, but he's never seen this man, and he has still yet to claim a faction one way or the other, which does rather ring alarm bells in Childermass' estimation. On the other hand, what is a man like this going to do to Norrell? Sweat on him?

"Very well then," he says, after a moment, before stepping back and letting the other man into the foyer. But only into the foyer. And only because it is rude to shut the door a man's face and keep him waiting on the front step, as Norrell has chided him for in the past. "Wait here," he commands, as he disappears through a side door and out of sight.

'Ethan' meanwhile, is waiting patiently in the foyer, hands clasped in front of himself. What a handsome and respectful young man. Mothers love him.

"I do, sir," Childermass says, although he knows just as well that Norrell could be contemplating what he will have for breakfast the next day and he will give him the same response. 'You know very well how busy I am.' Yes, Childermass knows perhaps better than anyone just how busy Norrell really is.

"There is a man here for you," he says instead. For Childermass is not so easily turned away as that. "About the situation in Lambeth. He wants to know what you wish to do to secure the area. Ethan Philips, he says his name is." Though Childermass has never heard of such a man. He cannot say for certain whether he is to be trusted or not. He leans forward against the edge of the other man's desk. "What would you have me do, sir?"

"I do not know, sir," Childermass says, honestly. "He is being more than a little evasive with his responses. But I did not want to presume whether or not you wished to speak with him, and thus I have let him in. He is waiting in the foyer. Though I will tell him as much, if you do not wish to do so yourself."

He inclines his head towards the other man, and steps back towards the door. If Norrell does not stop him, he will head back towards the man he has left waiting and give him what little the other man has said, before sending him on his way.
