You may then know, more or less, the incident of her granddaughter getting kidnapped by the vampires. It distressed her but she's fine. Honest to goodness she's fine.

It's normal for her to worry for people she cares for. It's pretty normal for her to think of all the worst case scenarios some of them could find themselves in due to their personalities/their histories/their everything.

It's very normal for her to suddenly check on them one day out of the blue, just appearing next to them without a warning or a heads up.

"Are you okay?"

She's totally calmed down about the incident last month. Really.

DON'T KNOW CLARA?

What do you mean by that?

Now you do as she suddenly phases through the wall and looks directly at you during her search for everyone she knows.

It doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing. It doesn't matter if there are people there or you're supposed to be by yourself. Suddenly you have a woman staring at you in confusion for a second before it registers in her head that no. You're not someone she knows through passing.

"Um. Oops."

"Your kind can be quite desperate," he said, "There's a lot they're willing to do for a temporary reward, even if it means trading their soul for it. Although, I don't think most of them fully comprehend what that means..."

He ran his tongue over his teeth again like a hungry wolf, eyes glinting.

"But you didn't, or you wouldn't be here right now. Lucky for you," he said, sudden change of tone from predatory to friendly evident in his speech.

She doesn't... She thinks she doesn't want to know what exactly happened to the poor other spirits who made a deal with their soul.

Aren't they nothing but their souls? What would make them give that up?

"Lucky me but how unlucky for them." Though nervous, she's not afraid to show her disapproval if it meant expressing an opinion others couldn't hold themselves. For one reason or another. "It sounds like they were taken advantage of by whoever those type of people are to do such a thing. Shameful."

Really. That's all she can think of. Besides wanting to keep an eye where Cephei is and how far she is from the wall.

"What's the saying? 'Buyer beware'? It isn't my fault if they were poor negotiators," he said.

And he absolutely took advantage of them in every way that he could, but he still believed that it wasn't his fault.

"I think there's a fine line," she says stubbornly, "between poor negotiating skills and being forced into a corner and someone preying on them."

She never liked them, those type of people who she saw as bullies more or less. Pushing people around and taking advantage of someone who didn't have a chance. "How can anyone live with themselves after doing that to others? It's not fair at all!"

"I've managed to live with myself for fifty-thousand years. It isn't very difficult," he said with a wry smile, "You don't get to my age without learning that life isn't fair."

"Fifty-thousand years." Oh. It makes her wince and pull back a bit. That amount of time is almost incomprehensible to her. She doesn't want to imagine what happened to the poor souls, ghosts and others, from then. "So when you thought life wasn't fair, you responded by being just as unfair? That's quite--"

There a lot of choice words for her to pick but she doesn't want to start a fight. Not really. "--aggressive, I suppose. It must work out for you quite well to get to this point."

"Fairness is of no concern to me. I do as I please. The stars do not move at the whims of man," he said, "But the stars are in your favor today - I am not hungry."

Okay. It's time for her to go now.

She feels bad for not even saying goodbye but considering she's leaving someone who may or may not try to eat her in the future, Clara is relieved that she snaps backs into the coffee shop as if her meeting with the strange man never happened.

She really needs to be more careful on who she's talking to from now on.
