Stroke of Midnight [OPEN]

Miss Abigail Widdowson cordially invites you to Geap Manor on Wednesday, July 1st at 19:00.

Food, drinks, and music will be provided.

All are welcome, but individuals are to be aware that any hostilities during the evening's festivities will not be tolerated.

It is the first time in at least a generation that the doors of Geap Manor have been opened to the general population. Or, at least, as general as the supernatural community could be considered. Some invitiations were made personally, but most were formally sent to the higher ranking members of the various factions.

Dinner is announced precisely at 19:30. The small, intimate eating area for the family has been turned into a buffet room. The caterers Abigail hired have obviously been paid well to make sure there is something for everyone. Rich meat dishes, hearty vegetarian dishes, light fish dishes, plenty of accompaniments and finger food. There is also plenty of fairly fresh blood for vampires. For the others, there are wines, water, and tea available.

The grand dining room has had its large table removed, replaced, instead, by small tables that can comfortably hold four. They can, of course, be pushed together to allow for more room.

The ballroom is open to the guests, and the DJ has also been highly paid to make sure the music played is precisely to the hostess's tastes. There is plenty of modern music, good for dancing, as well as older classics. However, interspersed are classical pieces meant for waltzes and foxtrots and other such ballroom dances.

In the sitting room is a drink cart with wine, tea, water, and blood. Chairs and divans are available, as the room is a quiet place, a little away from the ballroom, so conversation can be had with ease. There is an unlit fireplace, and a portrait of Abigail a few years younger than she is now hangs above it.

Most of the rest of the house is locked. One can wander the hallways, but it may prove ultimately fruitless. One who simply walks up the stairways will find the walls of each lined with the Widdowson family portraits of every generation, starting with one of a ten-year-old Abby, her parents, and her six-year-old brother. As one takes in all the paintings, a pattern presents itself. Every Widdowson woman featured is pale, thin, and blonde.

The grounds are beautifully maintained and fenced in by wrought iron on top of stone. A very traditional look for such an imposing manor. On the path from the street to the house, there's little remarkable, save the knocker on the door. Behind the house, however, if one ventures away, one might get the keen sense of something from inside the house watching, waiting, and hungering. On the ground floor, the locked rooms are mostly unremarkable, save for the study at the back of the house. Linger too long near there, and one might hear a sound coming in a pattering set. It isn't a knock against the door, no. Instead, it is the sound of something hitting the wall. If someone were to force their way into the nursery on the second floor or the attic several stories up... Well. They likely won't be coming back to the party. Or to anything.

Wandering, of course, isn't a suggested enterprise. The old house doesn't like people poking around and trying to find its secrets.

(Everyone who has at least a familiarity with the supernatural is welcome, as the invitations were distributed widely. Mingle, make your own top comments, enjoy the food, etc!)

Well, yes, that is true. Elsa's definitely not stupid.

"Thank you," Elsa replies, a bit surprised at the compliment. And kind of flattered too. Why, she's not sure. Maybe it's because Mab is so strikingly beautiful that it's nice to feel like she has her approval.

"Earlier when we met in the cafe.. you wanted to play a game of questions. I think I'm ready to play now."

Elsa looked even more comely when flattered. It did not escape Mab's notice. So much potential in the young woman.

Her attention, though, focuses at the mention of her game. Everything about her grows a little more still. The Fae love their games. They were unlikely to find a more ... private place to play but even in sight of so many others they were well out of hearing range of the normal. And the sounds of the party would make it difficult to anyone who had superhuman hearing to make out their conversation beyond the general clamor of the music and people gathered downstairs. "How delightful." Mab made a gentle motion of her hand for Elsa to begin.

Mab is going to let her go first. She feels like it had better be a good question.

"Are you a member of the Seelie or Unseelie court?"

Maybe not the best question, but it will help give Elsa some insight into her general state of being, whether she prefers order or chaos.

"I am Unseelie." Mab isn't particularly focused on chaos, but she also doesn't much care what happens to the humans that she isn't interested in either so if chaos happens in the human world she's not going to lift a finger to stop it.

"What is your name, child?" She didn't insist on a full name, just something to call her. It might still be too much for Elsa, but the girl did choose to play the game.

Chaos doesn't automatically equal evil, Elsa knows this, but it is good to know where a fae stands on the spectrum.

"Elsa Arendelle." Mab can know her name. She's almost sure that the fae could find it out anyway if she truly wanted to know. "Why did you reveal yourself to me in the cafe?"

"Elsa Arendelle." Mab sounds it out, matching it up perfectly with Elsa's pronunciation. She looks at Elsa thoughtfully. "I sensed sympathetic magic to my own from you, young and still growing. You house great potential. Perhaps it was curiosity. A desire to see what could become of your abilities."

She smiled a little. "As a student of the Institute, why did you choose to seek me out after all?" Everyone knows how their benefactor feels about the fae.

"I'm curious," she replies. "You came to me and I had questions. What does your magic entail, other than that it has to do with ice and snow. I guess I mean, what is the scope of it?"

Ahh curiosity. Humans had a saying about that and cats, didn't they? She asks a question that is a bit too dangerous to really give her a full answer. But she likes the game, she wishes to continue playing so she needs to give Elsa a true answer, something satisfying. "Winter." She replies, "My purview is winter, thus the ice and snow. I am the Lady of Air and Darkness." Which tells her everything though not to a dangerous extent. That aside it would take far too long to fully explain the extent of her magic. If Elsa wanted detail there would have to be a deal made. A question too all encompassing was difficult to really narrow down.

"You seemed somewhat at odds with your ability." Not terrified, but she'd definitely been struggling in the coffee shop even if it was just the fear she might not be able to control her emotions enough to keep the whole shop from noticing what she was. "Is that a regular occurrence?"

That's a very general answer, but it's an answer nonetheless. Elsa accepts it for now, assuming that her magical abilities are vast and probably could not be contained in a short answer anyway.

"Not as much anymore, but when I lived with my family, yes. They didn't really know what to do with me." Which is a polite way of saying they were scared of her. She pauses for a moment to think of another question, letting Mab comment on that if she wishes.

There was a look of disapproval on Mab's face at the idea of anyone not making the most of the girl's abilities. Such skills should be kindled and honed. "Fortunate that they found the school to assist your growth and teach you control." Not that Mab thought the school could ever do the same job she could in such a task. After all, these were her specialty and Mab had centuries of collected knowledge. "If you find you outgrow the instruction at the school feel free to call on me." She smiled a little, knowing that Elsa was wary of anything to do with the fae. She wouldn't push it, just put it there for Elsa to consider and if she took her up on the offer or even came to the bargaining table, it would be worth it.
