Litha Feast (Open to all court members and human guests, dated for the 21st)

The grounds were brightly lit and festooned with decoration: trees covered in sweet-smelling dew, leaves of gold and red, vividly-colored streamers woven with thread finer than spider's silk. All around, the tables were piled high with all the food and wine one might expect of a grand feast. (Apparently, the fae had spared no expense.)

The Seelie King and Queen were present, though distanced from the rest of the revellers -- and quite a few revellers there were. Men and women with petals in their hair, clothes of vibrant silk and satin, and a rainbow of rare feathers and gems. Some looked human, some looked animal. Some, such as in the case of a well-dressed gentleman with skin like birch bark, looked like none of the above.

Heiji had seen a somewhat similar smile on Clive's face before -- for instance, when he changed the topic of conversation away from a subject he'd rather not discuss. And he doubted Clive was very happy about being away from his work. But at least he wasn't freaking out? Someone had probably explained to him what was going on.

"No, I'm fine." Making an effort to talk properly instead of lapsing into his usual skipped word endings and lazy grammar. "Have you been well-treated here?"

This was awkward as shit, what was he going to say to Clive the next time they went on a friend date? Assuming that he got through this, that was...

Well, it was nice that the fox wasn't mad about being bumped into, at least. That would have made this encounter even more awkward than it already was, though for Clive it was solely because of the fact that he was having such a casual conversation with a giant talking fox. Not that he hadn't met animal-like fae before, but his encounters with them in the mortal realm were usually far less friendly. Or with any fae in general really.

"Ah, yes, everyone's been absolutely lovely so far." Yeah, his date brought him here against his will and the majority of the fae here seemed like stuck up, pretentious assholes. So lovely. "This is a very nice party, it's just... well, a bit overwhelming for a human like me." Well at least the last part wasn't a total lie. He wasn't exactly expecting to be a contestant in a fae beauty contest tonight.

Uh. What do? Part of Heiji wanted to pat Clive on the back or something to try and make him feel better, only he wasn't... really sure that would help at this point.

"It will be over soon. They're overzealous because of old traditions. If there is a specific place you'd like to return to, I can arrange it."

Man, talking like this was a bit of a strain. Sorry Clive, he'd like... let you ruffle his hair later.

What are you talking about, Clive was having such a great time at this party, just look at this totally not forced smile!!!

No, wait, there was a hint of a genuine smile starting to form now. "I already have an escort back to the mortal realm, but thank you for the offer. That's very kind of you." At least it seemed like he was slowly starting to warm up to fox!Heiji. He kind of wanted to pet it but that probably wasn't appropriate conduct.

"I understand." Well. Fox!Heiji really enjoyed pets, but sadly they didn't usually happen during polite conversation. He sat back on his haunches and looked up at the moon, which was now a bright sliver of silver in the sky. His tails curled and uncurled as he spoke.

"This is the time of year when the sun has the most power. When it wanes, power will pass to the winter fae."
