"A favor," she repeats carefully, watching him closely. Her bottom lip purses slightly. So he wants her to help him with his business. She can do that.

"I believe that's two favors." She doesn't reach for the cheque yet. "But I'll do what I can on both ends." The new rules... They were both good for her and terrible. She was local, so she'd been safe from most random attacks, but newborns had always been a different story. And now, she didn't have the protection of the law. No one would say anything if they drained her too far, if she was a victim of a random attack.

If anything, they'd claim it was deserved. Asking for it. It was all rhetoric she'd heard before. But that didn't mean she didn't take precautions.
