The flames die down shortly, and it doesn't look like anything is going to catch fire. At least not immediately. Unfortunately, it means that Sirius now has to face the reality in front of him, and there's no more distractions he can involve himself with. There is always the running option, but Sirius has found he can never really bring himself to use it. He takes a breath.
