Fall into Summer (OPEN)

Some witch holidays were meant to be enjoyed by all, regardless of species, alliances or preference to magic. Holidays like Lammas! Think of it as witch Thanksgiving.

An old woman by the name of Agatha Chapman was of the personal opinion that there was just too much infighting between her fellow witches this year. Those Circle Midnight witches were practically children! Agatha had raised enough children to know they were just going through some rebellious phase. It would pass. But this wasn't the time for expressing such things. This was a time of togetherness! Which was why Agatha had, through her daughters and granddaughters, sent a very public invitation to the supernatural community:

~Lammas Day Celebration~

Come celebrate the great tradition of the first harvest and shorter days with a beach party and bonfire!
Food, fun, and sun! No limits on guests, bring your friends!

AUGUST 1st 2015
12 PM - 2 AM
(public rituals @ 10 PM)

KINGSGATE CASTLE, JOSS GAP ROAD.
BROADSTAIRS.
KENT.

Transportation from the city will be provided from Victoria Station. Present this invitation at the ticket office.

You totally want to go right?

Like the invitation said, all guests transportation will be provided. The train happens to go directly from Victoria Station to the castle, which totals up to a two hour trip - giving plenty of time for people to run into one another on this train-ride. Let's get along everyone.

Upon the guests arrival everyone is greeted by the hostess; a very old, very cheerful lady who insists on being called Ms. Agatha. She introduces her daughters and their daughters. Hit on them at your own peril. After the brief introduction and delicately worded warning that no witch need reveal their coven to others, and no one need attempt to confront them about their choices, everyone is invited down the side of the slow incline of the cliffs to the beach. Time to have fun.

Lammas was traditionally a holiday to celebrate the last day of the wheat harvest. It seems like the witches hosting this party went all out in incorporating that. Golden colored canopies cover the tables that are set out for food. Along with them are large punch bowls filled with different colored liquids and a small bar for anyone who wants something a little stronger than fruit, both of which are abundant - after all this holiday was centered around a community feast. There seems to be a general theme following the decor; apples, cinnamon, and vanilla feature heavily in every dessert of pies, cakes, puddings and ice cream in very creative ways. The more savory foods, less so. But they all fall into the category of typical beach party foods.

There is a changing area towards the face of the cliffs along with bathrooms.

Another fun tradition of Lammas is competitive and athletic games! There are two volleyball nets set up, and what looks like an area for sandcastle building. The team that wins the most games, and the person who builds the best sandcastle wins a prize! The prize is a Maen Magl necklace. The stone is said to bring good luck and good health to the owner. Additionally, they can cure diseases of the eye if rubbed on one's eyelids.

If you're not interested in games, there's always the golden sand to relax and tan on and the water to swim in!

Later, after the sun sets a bonfire is constructed - you can help, but enough driftwood has been collected for the fire itself. As the sun sets, the women hosting the event let everyone know what the purpose of it is. The fire is meant to - while also help people make amazing smores, roasted corn, and apples wrapped in foil - allow the witches and everyone else in attendance to participate in the Lammas rituals. Everyone is encouraged to engage in the rituals, though no one is required to do so.

Nowadays, Lammas is the time to cast off bad habits, thoughts, and what is no longer needed in your life. This spiritual cleansing is represented by fire, and burning things. There are two that will be done tonight, but they won't take longer than thirty minutes when alls said and done. They maybe be performed in any order.

A ritual called 'Winnowing' is meant to cleanse, where everyone writes down negative emotions and bad habits they want to lose on a piece of paper. The witches in the group will all know the chant:

Blessing and curses
Come from the harvest
Return to the earth
To nourish next years

The paper is then thrown into the fire, where it will spark and disintegrate.

The second is highly encouraged for everyone to participate in, as the more people who do so, the more the blessings will be! Everyone is given nine sheaths of wheat, which they are to weave into a braid, and then attach a ribbon to the base of the braid. The witches in the circle around the bonfire should, as the braids are being done, chant:

We weave you and hail you
As queen of the corn
When all's gathered in and
When you are sown.

Once the braids are done, those that weaved them are meant to grab a piece of paper and write what blessing they wish for their friends to have, such as 'Friendship' or 'Mobility'. They must keep the blessing secret and secure it to the ribbon. The ribbons are meant to be kept till Imbolc - another witch holiday - and then be burned, while the ashes are meant to be kept on the individual until the next Lammas. Hope you'll attend that party wherever it is!

After the Ritual, there are plenty of smores to make and some lovely music to listen to while everyone gathers around the bonfire and relaxes until they want to leave. There is no curfew, but the witches hosting the party will be going back up to their flat in the castle around two in the morning.

Happy Lammas!

"That you know of," he said, ducking ineffectually. "Although personally, I think that sounds like one of the perks of getting a gray hair. You can show it to your kid and tell 'em it's all their fault, makin' you stay up and worry."

Was that... actually a positive, though?

"I don't think so!" said Heiji. "I mean, there's a ton of stuff to learn, especially if you didn't grow up knowin' everything. Maybe they ought to give out a little handbook, after all. 'Specially for ghosts."

Although how someone would find the ghost to give them the book was in question...

"A book? Like a brochure? Oh, Heiji, that's wonderful!" Now that's something she can get behind no matter what. "That'll be so useful for a lot of people. Not just ghosts."

Metahumans realising their abilities, witches coming into their powers for the first time, shapeshifters and vampires learning where it's safe to go. A brochure could really help a lot of people no matter its length or contents. "Maybe if we ask the big people nicely enough, they'll say they'll think about it. It could be good PR for them."

"I'm eighteen," was the answer she'd receive. "So near that long." But she'd only recently started venturing out on her own. "I try not to make myself too well known."

She loved the way his accent flared up sometimes. It was easier that way to imagine how he must have been before he turned. Handsome Irishman, probably about to settle down with a family. They did that much younger back then. She could imagine him taking some pretty lass out dancing at the pub.

She was glad she'd been lucky enough to meet him.

She grinned, still holding his hand. "Good. You tell me the second you aren't well, we'll grab Kenzi and leave." It was a few hours by train back to the city, but they'd have to make the journey anyway at some time or another.

Nancy thought for a moment, falling silent as only the music and voices around them washed over her. "Let me know if you want a dance partner, to keep your mind off of things."

"Or maybe," said Heiji, "If people really are after ya all the time like you say, we could try and... I dunno, put together a petition? I mean, you aren't hurting anyone, so you've got a right to hang around that coffee shop if ya want, right?"

Yes. Organize.

"I'd enjoy that," she responded with a smile, rising up from where she sat. She slipped off her sandals to really feel the sand under her feet and waited for him.

"I've heard stories related to that with feral children. If you deprive a small child of human contact and just with animals, they think they're more animals. However, unlike the Jungle Books, a feral child isn't going to take to living like a person with any kind of ease."

Although Snake majored in physics, he also rather enjoyed research of mental development and the capacity for thought.
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: haha no way)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2015-08-12 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Heiji laughed. "Yeah, fiction's not the best place to look for accurate information on childhood development. Although reading about Harlow's experiments with rhesus monkeys was kind of awful. You've heard of them, right? It involved taking young monkeys away from their mother and seeing what sort of substitutes they'd bond with instead."

He scooped up some sand and piled it up in front of himself, experimenting to see how easy it was to work with.
blind_badass: (well crap)

[personal profile] blind_badass 2015-08-12 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
"I take it you have a demanding job?" And liked to drink a lot, but Snake keeps that thought to himself. Her next question did give him pause.

"Know about...?" He hadn't really been paying attention to that part of the gathering. But to be fair, he'd been talking with a ghost earlier. "I know there's a supernatural group here in London but I don't know a lot of details specifically, if that's what you're referring to. Somehow wandering around and asking people what kind of powers they have seems rude."
blind_badass: (amused)

[personal profile] blind_badass 2015-08-12 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
He smiled just a little bit. "If you put your arms on my shoulders and I put my arms at your waist and you lead, I think I could manage." Hopefully she wasn't too tiny or he was too tall at 6'1".
blind_badass: (well then)

[personal profile] blind_badass 2015-08-12 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Snake was dressed much as he'd first met her: looking like he'd stepped from an office or a university. He took off his shoes and socks and walked beside her. Sometimes the water just tickled his toes.

"I like beaches but I can't really swim in waters with a danger of undertow. So walking along them is the next best thing."
stauncherhearted: (prettiest)

[personal profile] stauncherhearted 2015-08-12 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, let's do what we can." She turns to face him, and reaches out to take his hands and place them on her slim waist. Her hands then rest on his shoulders with mild difficulty- she is nearly a foot shorter than him, after all.

"Preferable style?"

"Still, speaking to the stars is so much more than any of us lesser fae could even dream of," Maera emphasizes, her own eyes wide and innocent. "You must be very special."
goroesi: (cause to lose all my senses)

[personal profile] goroesi 2015-08-12 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
"That doesn't even sound positive, Heiji!" Maera protests, laughing with her words. "And I'm the perfect daughter, so my mom doesn't ever have to worry about that." After a pause, she admits, "okay, maybe not the perfect daughter, but definitely better than the daughter my mom expected."
goroesi: (it might seem like a crush)

[personal profile] goroesi 2015-08-12 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, you're young! That makes a lot more sense." Says Maera, the fae pushing ninety. "I can't imagine not loving the spotlight, but whatever works for you, I suppose."
warmheartedly: (a bull;)

[personal profile] warmheartedly 2015-08-12 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Not all the time. Just frequently enough for it to be rather annoying!" Clara. That's. That's the point.

All the same-- His idea to make a petition is met with a surprised and confused smile, not at all opposed to the idea of having some peace and quiet but this is something she's never heard before. "... A petition? Like we sign signatures on a board and pass it along to the Council for them to read? I didn't know they still did that."

It would be nice to not worry about her reputation of a 'scary' ghost getting her into trouble. If it could somehow also cover Aradia and other peaceful ghosts, she'll be 'down' with this as the cool kids say.
goroesi: (i made you believe)

[personal profile] goroesi 2015-08-12 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yes. I'm like... a messenger-slash-courier type. If any of the higher-ups want messages sent or packages delivered discreetly, I'm their gal." There's an evident tone of pride in her voice as she speaks. She loves what she does, after all.

"It'd be more weird than rude - but either way, I wouldn't recommend asking strangers. Friends are a different story altogether. I'm a fae, by the way. Well, half-fae, half-human. Both parts are important." Ah, the marshmallow looks about done. She pulls it out of the flame, poking at it with a finger, then starts carefully sandwiching it between chocolate and graham crackers. "How about you?"
goroesi: (cause to lose all my senses)

[personal profile] goroesi 2015-08-12 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
She can't help a little giggle, covering her mouth with one hand. "I'm sorry, that's rude of me," she says apologetically, though there's still mirth in her eyes. "It's just- you and my parents had the same idea, but Mama wouldn't be caught dead saying she believes in teamwork rather than fighting till the end. It's- not that she doesn't believe in that. It just sounds so sweet when you say it."
stauncherhearted: (devious)

[personal profile] stauncherhearted 2015-08-12 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Nancy nods. She did look her age, she had that going for her, she supposed. "I wish I could say the same." Every time she was in it, it was for something she didn't want. Something that was beyond her control. She'd rather stay in the background and get a bigger picture and keep some of her control.
goroesi: (i played with your heart)

[personal profile] goroesi 2015-08-12 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"What, you wish you were more used to the spotlight? It's not that hard. Just- as long as you do it in baby steps, you can get acclimated to it." It's something she learned to do when she was younger, after all.
stauncherhearted: (my fav wine is whatever you have more of)

[personal profile] stauncherhearted 2015-08-12 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I mean- I wish I could say I liked it. I'm sorry, that was confusing." She smiled and took another sip of her drink. "But I'll take the advice, thank you."

"I'm just peachy," Cooper says, sounding more than just a little grumpy. Just because Heiji is the forgive and forget type doesn't mean he is. He's still planning to decorate his carpet with a very large, black fox-skin rug. But that's for a night when he's at one-hundred percent. For now, he'll play nice.

"Go right ahead. None of those charred black ones though. I like them golden-brown," he dictates bossily.
emotioneater: (Now now)

[personal profile] emotioneater 2015-08-12 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, the stories he could've told her if she asked. He'd been young in mind as well as body back then, still with the air of a bad boy. A dashing revolutionary, full of hope and ideals. He'd had a cause to believe in and die for. The cynicism hadn't come until later after his first death.

Cooper blinked at the mention of Kenzi. They knew each other? What was he thinking, of course she did. Everyone seemed to know everyone in this city. Here he thought that only happened living in small towns in the middle of nowhere. "Will do. I'll let you know the minute I'm done." The mention of dancing made his eyes light up. "Now there's an offer I must take you up on."
emotioneater: (Amused)

"I think you've done more than enough partying for both of us." One good poke might knock her right over and don't think he isn't tempted to do so. Just come a little closer...

"I agree. Though I think my definition of food and yours might differ quite a bit." His fangs dart out for a second before disappearing once again. He won't be feeding off of anyone tonight, not after the trouble he's had the past few weeks.
