time for a check up (open post)

KNOW CLARA?

You may then know, more or less, the incident of her granddaughter getting kidnapped by the vampires. It distressed her but she's fine. Honest to goodness she's fine.

It's normal for her to worry for people she cares for. It's pretty normal for her to think of all the worst case scenarios some of them could find themselves in due to their personalities/their histories/their everything.

It's very normal for her to suddenly check on them one day out of the blue, just appearing next to them without a warning or a heads up.

"Are you okay?"

She's totally calmed down about the incident last month. Really.

DON'T KNOW CLARA?

What do you mean by that?

Now you do as she suddenly phases through the wall and looks directly at you during her search for everyone she knows.

It doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing. It doesn't matter if there are people there or you're supposed to be by yourself. Suddenly you have a woman staring at you in confusion for a second before it registers in her head that no. You're not someone she knows through passing.

"Um. Oops."

It's all new and important information. The girl nonchalantly switches her phone from the closer ear to the farther, not wanting to lose one of the few good pieces of tech that she owns. Especially given that the woman seems like she might be sensitive at times. Ringer glances sideways for a brief second at the last response, nearly jumping on its end in reply. "Their anchor?"

"And I should thank you, Missus Seville, for bringing it to my attention." He can't help but smile just a little. It's wrong to, and he knows it, but it... He felt useful again. Like he was doing what he was supposed to be doing.

"Things..." He shakes his head. It's hard to predict how things might have gone, but he knows this much. "Things would have gotten far worse if someone hadn't paid attention when you did."

"I'd appreciate that, really."

While he wasn't quite expecting torches and pitchforks, things had seemed pretty quiet. Or maybe he was that good at hiding. Sirius would like to believe the latter, but considering his luck it probably wouldn't last.

"And you don't have to worry. I've managed to find a few places to hide out, and getting food hasn't been too difficult."

There are people out there willing to feed a starving dog after all.

He smiles at her as she tugs out the chair, enough to sit down, although he can't keep the curiosity from his expression. Lancelot picks up his coffee for something to do with his hands, to keep himself from staring as she settles, and takes a sip as thinks.

"Forgive me if this is a foolish question," he begins, cautious. "But... can everyone see you?"

Is it, he wonders, something similar to why he could see the mark Pel carried that let her close the gate? The fae that came through?

"The student is fine. It was his mother who went to the clinic." As for whether or not everything's okay... That all depends on things he can't be sure of yet. How long vampire blood stays in the human system. What happens if it does work its way out. What happens if it doesn't. None of those will let a doctor even slightly worth his stuff make promises.

"Please do."

A pause. Because, ah, yes. There is something else to be said. Something he's only recently decided.

"You're also more than welcome to come to that clinic and check up on things. I won't always have hours myself, but I'd love to know it was running smoothly in my absence."

He's not smug about having everything set up to take over the practice once the good doctor is out of the way.

"It makes perfect sense," he allows, and Lancelot smiles a little once more. "I have already had several... unusual experiences the past month or so. I do not think I am... normal, as you put it, although it seems... a strange thing to say. I have always thought myself one of the most normal people around, compared to others. I suppose we all like to think ourselves normal, and everyone else the strange ones. I am not so sure what we would define as normal any longer, in truth, if there is even such a thing."

Sirius nods. He's checked out the shop a few times but never really gone in. After all, he wants to keep a low profile and doesn't want to upset anyone. It's hard to stay on the straight and narrow when you still need to prove yourself innocent.

"What? You've already done lots," Sirius says. Stealing the shirt and promising to keep an eye out for news were pretty good as far as Sirius was concerned.

"Thank you. Everything should run smoothly once he's no longer in control of the clinic."

Should. But there was no promise that everything would work perfectly. Still, she wanted to help, and it might be useful to have someone checking in while he wasn't there.

It wouldn't hurt, definitely, and shouldn't interfere with anything else she was doing.

Is there anything he'd like to know? Lancelot lets out a huff of amusement at that, takes a sip of his coffee before sinking back in his chair -- lips curving in wry amusement.

"So much," he admits, "I..." His eyes flick around the coffee house a moment, cautious, before he drops them to his drink and tilts his head. "For most of my life years of my memories have been...lost, blank. Recently they began to... come back, slowly. Everything locked away was... things like this."

He gestures between them, offers a wincing smile.

"Thinks to do with... other realms, I suppose. It's... a little... disorientating, and... out of date, I imagine."

Ringer pushes her way out the door, allowing it to linger open behind her for an extra couple seconds. It's enough time for Clara to follow if she chooses. Ghosts might be able to phase without thinking about it, but that's no reason to be rude. She turns to begin heading towards the old bookstore nearby, keeping a casual pace with her phone at her ear.

"Do you have a good relationship with yours?" It's a personal question. Ringer knows that without even fully understanding what an anchor is. But she's hoping it won't be too rude to ask and that the woman might even answer.

"That could actually help me out a lot," Sirius replies, considering his options. It might be easier than trying to contact them himself, which would raise a lot of suspicion. Not that he had anyone to contact at the moment. He had no idea who of his old friends were in still the city (and was torn between whether or not he could trust them, not to mention if his sudden reappearance might cause trouble for them. It hurts to think of his friends in that light).

"I don't know if I have any messages for right now, but how can I contact you if I do?"

"What's the saying? 'Buyer beware'? It isn't my fault if they were poor negotiators," he said.

And he absolutely took advantage of them in every way that he could, but he still believed that it wasn't his fault.
