Sometimes all it takes to encourage someone is to make the role you want them to play, important. Humans were driven by emotions. Give them a cause and suddenly they can marshal their abilities and make a difference. Mab hadn't come in with ulterior motives, even the conversation had not been more than curiosity. This though, this was something she could use. If Clara could be convinced Mab was the person she needed to collaborate with.
