Game Opening: May Ball
It had to be done.
Welcome all to the Redbright Institute's May Ball! This evening is a celebration of the Institute's achievements over the past year. Students aged 16 and above can attend on their own, while younger students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Meanwhile, friends and guests of the Institute are invited as a gesture of friendship and harmony between the various factions.
Rules and etiquette
• This is a black tie event. Formal attire is required.
• No weapons. This is a school, there are children present. Any weapons or objects that could be used as weapons will be confiscated.
• No drugs or alcohol. Obviously. Don't try to sneak any in.
• No violence.
There is security within the school and present at the event. (In fact, if your character is a member of the Redbright Institute, you could have them acting as security if you want.) They will respond to and put a stop to any trouble.
Places to go
The main action takes place in the large Assembly Hall. This is where the Chancellor Sylvia Redbright will give her address. It's also where you can party later on. The disco is family-friendly – not exactly a rave, but the kids will love it.
Drinks and snacks are available in the dining hall. The drinks are non-alcoholic. Vampires, no need to worry about your cravings: blood cocktails are provided! They're given in good faith on the assumption that you won't be snacking on anyone else tonight.
Just off the dining hall, one of the classrooms has been converted into a chill-out area. The lights are off, the desks and chairs have been replaced by beanbags and there's a table in the corner with a chocolate fountain, marshmallows and strawberries. A video of young witches taking part in various night-time rituals (they mostly seem to involve chanting and bonfires) plays silently on the screen.
One of the lecture theatres has been opened up to showcase students' work from the past year. On the screen you can watch a slideshow of notable events and achievements. Strangely enough there aren't many people in this room.
Outside, there is a giant chessboard on the lawn. The pieces are made of plastic and can easily be moved around. Why, you ask? Why not, is the answer.
Finally, a large marquee has been set up in the quad. This is the adults-only area, with wine and cocktails served at the bar, nibbles available at a few high tables dotted around and a sophisticated atmosphere. No children under 18 allowed. (Note that the legal drinking age is 18.)

Henry Morgan, naturally, responds to the idea of a black tie affair with a three piece suit. Rather than a tie, however, he has a loose scarf that hangs under the collar of his suit jacket. He listens to Sylvia's speech, offering a calm round of applause where appropriate. It's fascinating, really, to watch her in action. She wears her power well, and Henry makes note of that.
A few times during the night, he reappears as the DJ assaults the ears of everyone present, doing a discreet security sweep to make sure things are staying absolutely family friendly.
Dining Hall)
Immediately after Slyvia's speech, Henry makes his way to the dining hall. He samples everything to drink except the blood cocktails, confident that there's no alcohol in any of them. Then, he gets himself a coffee to enjoy during the night. He allows himself a little time to eat and mingle before he gets back to work.
After all, he's volunteered for security duty tonight.
He'll return more than once for some snacking and to do another sampling of the drinks to make sure they're staying non-alcoholic. After all, whether part of the school or not, he doesn't trust people not to try and supply their own booze.
Lecture Theatre)
It's a generally quiet place for him, and Henry's curious about what to expect from the students here. He's teaching history here, but there will still always be projects. It should be interesting. After all, there's as much for him to learn as there is for him to teach, and he looks forward to it all.
But this is a place for him to sit down for a bit and relax, away from his security obligations.
Marquee)
Where there is alcohol, there's likely to be trouble. Henry knows that as simple fact. So, he spends a good deal of the evening with his coffee out among the guests in the marquee. He flits about, trying to be sociable. After all, it isn't his place to make it obvious he's security. He won't be able to do as good of a job that way. It's better to just be around, chat, refrain from drinking, and keep his eyes open.

The man a few seats down the row from her caught her eye and, after a small sip, she turns to him. "Party getting to be too much for you?"

He smiles just a little, giving her a small nod. It had been a long time since he'd really been to a party like this. Not since Abigail turned about forty or so, and they'd started going out just a little less. It was something he hadn't really missed, but it seemed he'd have to get used to it again.

"Do you work here?"

As well as an on-call physician during the evenings. Which would be the hours at the clinic he was still looking to open or take over, but that could be done during the term place.
"Doctor Henry Morgan. A pleasure, Miss."
no subject
"Or would you prefer Professor?" Which one was higher?
no subject
He smiled easily enough, releasing her hand after just a moment. "Are you a student here, Miss Fagin?"
no subject
"Me?' The lightest of laughs. "Oh, no- I'm not." Just working the crowds, and letting a rogue human run around. Speaking of, she hoped he hadn't managed to get himself killed.

Do your best to ignore the fact that she's been shoving all manner of food in her clutch that she'd enchanted to be far bigger on the inside. She'd even grabbed a few bottles of wine to put in there.

At the next party, perhaps he won't be acting as chaperone and security. Still, at least things have been calm so far. No real fuss yet.

"Any of these projects your students then, Professor?"
no subject
He has to smile just a little, leaning back to look at the work on the screen now. He was eager to learn from those teaching the students about magic.

"if you don't mind me asking, why politics and history?"

He could, of course, probably teach medical school. It might actually be fun to instruct a new generation of medical examiners. Still, he'd come to Redbright because he knew he could trust them. The school was for those who weren't quite... normal.

"I'm sure you're a great professor, for what it's worth, Doctor."

"Well, Doctor Morgan, it was a pleasure meeting you, but I suppose I should find my date before he gets himself kicked out." It was Stiles. It was gonna happen.
